Everybody is up in arms about OIL? That is why alternative fuels should be developed.
If a viable energy source becomes availible, not only does the middle east fold back to a 3rd world status, we then get time to argue important things! (like dark chocolate vs. milk chocolate)
I will say this concerning JOBS: That episode of "Twilight Zone" is incredibly accurate. I am talking about the episode where robotics replace the manufacturing labor force.
Robotics are putting thousands of people out of work everyday. as is automation. A grocery distribution center I once worked at is now the poster child for warehouse automation. The grocery warehouse used to have two shifts, and 200+ employees. Order pullers/pushers, dock workers, etc. Now there are 7-10 employees a shift, and they put the product on a huge roller system. The boxes go past and are scanned, and automatically diverted & sent to the correct loading door.
Robotics have infiltrated the auto manufacturers, tech industries... HAMBURG Germany has a port where cargo is brought into the country. There is ONE man working there, unloading the ships. Once he brings a container from the ship, he sets it on an automated container transport. The container will not be touched by a human until it is automatically loaded onto a truck. Matter of fact, if any of the robotic "workers" in the container yard detect a human, that sector stops all activity so that the person (who might be "lost") isn't hurt by the machines moving the cargo. More and more industry is converting to automated/robotic systems. Those jobs eliminated are gone for good. Most of the jet airliners flying have a pilot for one reason, people won't trust a flight without someone in the pilot's chair. The aircraft can take-off, navigate, and land. All auto pilot. They have a section of town up in Lancaster/Palmdale O.K.d for driverless cars, and they are busy perfecting the technology. Truck drivers will become obsolete, probably before 2020.
I dunno, supposedly the "automation/robotic" switchover was supposed to make goods cheaper. Wonder why that hasn't happened? Think about it. Even the military is becoming automated. Thats where the jobs are going. Unions can't do anything but watch and hope perhaps robots will want to unionize. We are at the door to a completely different world. That is unless the politicians keep playing their games. Revolution isn't far off.
Ah well, back to the oil arguement. BTW $4.40 a gal, so cal.

Billy, with ONE spill from a pipeline, look at what's spilled. You must be joking that one overturned truck can remotely compare.
No not joking Helen For every pipeline leak there are 3000 truck spills do the math. Trucks up here carry 124 barrels a B-train truck carries 248 barrels. 124 x 3000 = 372000 barrels About 40 gallons to the barrel = 14,880,000 gallons thats if no B trains spill. When you do the math helen a pipeline makes sense.

Each rail car carries 23,500 gallons x 25 = 587,500 gallons thats if only 1 car derails. ave. barge or ships carry 500,000 bbl's x 40 = 20,000,000 gallons x 38 = error on my calculator or 760,000,000 Gallons
The Exxon Valdez carried 1.48 million barrels x 40 gals = 59,000,000.2 gallons.
keep yipin Helen math don't lie!!!!!

You completely forgot the part about how many American truckers or rail workers will get fired for it. Can they ALL run to Canada to work as brand new 0 experience oil workers making $20-$30 an hour to start?
That brings up a more interesting issue. If there are such a shortage of workers in Canada ALREADY, and you guys are having trouble finding workers... why are YOU arguing so hard for TransCanada personally? You don't need the work, and you don't need the $$ either.

You don't need the work, and you don't need the $$ either. Helen Its takes 2 people to run a train now that they got rid of the caboose. As for the truckers there is a shortage of truckers in N. America. They will still have jobs for the following reasons. -The pipe and equipment for the keystone needs to be trucked. They only haul 2 or 3 pipe at a time due to the size and weight. These pipe are 60 ft. long, 180 ft. per load. Due the math. - Just because the pipeline is in place does not mean that the oil gets to it by itself. It has to be trucked to the terminals. And most wells and fields are not pipe lined to the treatment/collection batteries. Still need trucks to get it from the well to battery. Battery to terminal. - With the line in place, new fields will be drilled along the route that had no way of moving the oil or were not feesable to drill before the new line is installed. In turn creating more jobs and more trucks needed. As for why we are pushing the pipeline. Us Canadians are tired of being ripped off by the USA, for our hard work that we do to produce the oil. Trust me we would rather sell our oil to you folks than china. But if Barry keeps fu**ing us over, we will sell it to Asia. The Gateway line will be built if Barry keeps stalling to help out his crony Warren. We can help you folks out with your high unemployment or we can bring in Asian workers. If Barry is really serious about getting people jobs(which I believe he is not, less votes for the dems ) he will get off his non stop election mode ass and do something. Then maybe the rest of the world will stop thinking he is an idiot. And quite laughing at him. Trust me helen the world is laughing at him.

The world is laughing at Obama? You must be joking. 247ureports.com/poll-europe-likes-obama-china-prefers-romney/A straw poll of people in more than 30 countries shows U.S. President Barack Obama would win by a landslide if they were allowed to vote in the U.S. election.
The poll conducted for United Press International by CVOTER International/WIN-Gallup International found the strongest support for Obama in Iceland, Netherlands, Portugal, Germany and Ireland while Republican challenger Mitt Romney’s highest support was found in Israel, Pakistan, Georgia, Macedonia and China.
The poll queried more than 26,000 men and women outside the United States. Sixty-three percent of those queried said the U.S. president has a high or very high impact on their lives while 29 percent discounted the impact and 9 percent said they were uncertain or didn’t know.
Asked if they would like to vote in the United States, 42 percent said yes, with the percentage rising to 46 percent among those less than 30 years of age.
If U.S. elections were a global affair, 63 percent said they would vote and 81 percent said they would support Obama, compared to 19 percent for Romney. Among U.S. voters, the two candidates are separated by only 3-5 percentage points, recent polls have indicated, giving Obama the edge.
“In 29 of the 32 countries polled, Obama’s rating for policies and competence is 55 percent and above, the lowest figure being in Pakistan,” the pollsters said. “In seven countries, the approval for his policies and competence is in the 90s, and in another nine it is in the 80s.”
Obama’s support was highest in Iceland (98 percent); Netherlands, Portugal, Germany (97 percent); Ireland, Denmark (96 percent); Switzerland, France, Finland (95 percent); Italy and Turkey (94 percent); Brazil (93 percent); Romania, Saudi Arabia (91 percent) and Australia (90 percent).
“Surprisingly, support for Romney fails to match Obama’s everywhere except Israel. The most notable is Pakistan, where despite Obama’s controversial handling of AfPak [Afghanistan and Pakistan] that has nosedived ties with Islamabad and where an overwhelming majority of citizens increasingly identify America as an archenemy, Obama leads 59 percent to 41 percent among those who would vote — although the actual numbers are 13 percent to 9 percent in Obama’s favor, as a majority of Pakistanis say either they don’t know or they would choose neither,” pollsters noted.
Romney garnered the most support in Israel (65 percent), Pakistan (41 percent), Georgia (36 percent), Macedonia (30 percent), China (29 percent), Lebanon (26 percent), Iraq (20 percent), India (19 percent), Colombia (16 percent), Hong Kong (15 percent) and Cameroon (15 percent).
The poll, conducted among most of the Group of 20 nations and others in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas, Aug. 20-Sept. 5, had an error rate of 3.5 percentage points and a confidence level of 95 percent. ______________________ The only nations that would vote AGAINST Obama are China, Pakistan, Columbia, and India. Of our ALLIES, only Isreal would have voted for Romney, and that's only 65%. Still a large margin. Europe gave Obama a Nobel Prize, and Time made him Man of the Year. This is from Yahoo News: news.yahoo.com/why-world-wants-obama-win-094500188--election.html. Why the world wants Obama to win By The Week's Editorial Staff | The Week – Wed, Oct 24, 2012.
