November 2015 Friendly Cab Contest /Challenge
This is a challenge to yourself... What is the best cab that you can create... posting the results of your creation.
Theme: Un-justice - You find a rock that you have been always wanting to try (new or old) but haven't got the chance, or something that is buried in your pile of rocks that hasn't seen the light of day for a very long time. Maybe you will discover your new favorite material.
Rules: -
Cabs entered must be completed by the deadline (they can be started before the month). All entries will require a photo of the slab or rock, preform and finished cab. So no cabs pulled from the drawer.
You can enter as many photos of the finished cab as you like (within reason) on the same post. If you decide to add another photo later on, please edit your original post.
Things like intarsias, carvings, jewelry, and composite type cabs may not be entered (unless otherwise specified) in an effort to keep the contest somewhat fair by just entering free form style cabs. It is OK if there is a hole drilled in the item as long as there is no extras on the rock (wire, chord, etc.)
We ask that all entries submitted to this contest be unique to this competition (not submitted in several different competitions). any duplicates will not be included in the voting list.
Feel free to share with us what ever you like about the material, the process or what ever else you would like to share.
Also, don't forget to include the name of the material.
If a tie occurs in the voting the breaker will be whoever submitted the finished item first.
Prize - From Tommy

Prize for November will require a minimum of 10 entries to be won. If we don't get at least 10 entries I'll leave it up to Glenn if he wants to carry the prize forward into the next month until we do. I think it's a good prize - I'm calling out the following cabbers and I'm sure I missed a few. If even half of you participate we will give away the box. NDK cobbledstones Don roy jakesrocks rockpickerforever micellular rockjunquie Bluesky78987 NM Stone Supply Drummond Island Rocks TByrd rxscram The Dad_Ohs spiritstone tothesummit broseph82 Roger 39don glennz01adding: beefjello - how could I forget Brian!? heehee Donnie's Rocky TreasuresTry to follow Glenn's weird theme and lets have a good turnout. Large flat-rate box stuffed with mostly slabs but also some tumbling rough for box-fill. There is every kind of rock in here - agates, jaspers, onyx, marble, aventurine etc. (and that's just the top row) I filled this box about six months ago and tried to sell it on Facebook for $100 but didn't get any takers so I would rather give it away to someone from the board than to take less than that. I haven't seen the bottom several inches layer of slabs in over six months so I honestly can't remember what's in there anymore. The box weighs around 30lbs - my hand-held fish scale tops out at 26lbs and it still had a ways to go. If the winner is outside of the domestic USA I will need help with the shipping cost - will advise how much. We can cross that bridge if we get there.

Have not done cabs in a long while, but Test-run on a piece of Tiger Iron before trying to carve. Did give me a run for my life. Hurt my thumb as blade sheered off the pin 2 weeks ago ripping into flesh, and after splitting the two pieces with a screwdriver (my blade was just a couple of mm short in places) I cut my other thumb yesterday. Very dirty to work with, but I like what I see. Has somewhat of noble colour appearance. Thanks to Claudia Crystella for this regal material. Will try tomorrow to get a daylight picture (While the pics shows pretty much the actual colour, its rather dark overall) Thanks for looking, Kurt

Nice KK! Blood is new wetting agent for chatoyant cabs? No chatoyance in that one..... If there would be, it would be Mara Mamba, I presume?

aside: Not so sure that is tiger iron. Tiger iron is noted for 3 distinct components in it's make up; tiger eye, hematite and red jasper. Tiger iron pieces obvious in this tiger eye / tiger iron tumble I did years ago. There is a tiger eye which also contains hematite, some call it "fancy" tiger eye, but there is a better known name which escapes me right now. The above may be that, but doesn't look quite right. The bottom of the cab in the last picture doesn't look like how tiger eye forms. Only "ingredient" I'd be fairly confident about in that cab would be hematite. And, even that could be wrong! Could be magnetite. Good looking piece - whatever it is!

Phooey. The lapidary shop is closed until January. By hook or by crook, I'll try to ground something out, even if it's with a piece of sandpaper and twelve elbows' worth of grease.

At home depot they sell these foam pad things that have very fine grade... I'm not sure what grit I used but it gave a decent polish to a stone I was working on that was not something I could polish with my cabber.

Can't wait to get something together for this one. I guess I have to dump out the scrap bucket to make the theme work

Can't wait to get something together for this one. I guess I have to dump out the scrap bucket to make the theme work Not necessarily scraps... but it can be something you haven't tried before or done in a while. Unless you only stick to one particular thing.. This summer I found a lot of copper minerals that I want to see if they will be decent. I'd think most of us have new material that none of us have tried yet.
