Peachfront did you just click the link and poof your computer locked up with ransom ware? I have never heard of this scam. Ransomware (and you are correct it is becoming a real problem) is normally done with a scam phone call and the victim lets the scammer have access to their computer. You are worried about clicking a link attached to a post here, you realize that every time you use Google or another search engine and the click on one of the suggestions you are actually clicking a link. If your computer got locked up clicking a link then the net is broken because we click hundreds of links everyday. Tom Yeah, that's exactly what happened. I had to crash my computer to get out of it. An alarm goes off shrieking that you have to call some number to save your computer. I don't call such numbers because I can recognize a scam but you do have to know how to crash and get away because it completely locks the computer and sends the alarms screaming... many, many people have apparently responded to this by thinking the call is actually coming from Microsoft so they call the number and get scammed of their credit card info. It's very convincing. Not everyone is married to a computer programmer, nor does everyone have my experience with recognizing scammers. And even professionals are being scammed, bricked, or extorted. This is not a rare problem. It's a growing one. No, I don't just randomly click on Google links any more. Those days are done. You can search in some safe place, like Amazon, etc. I'm not searching all over the internet any more, there's no reason to. There are lots of places a legit person can introduce themselves, a forum like this one, Twitter, etc. and I can get a sense of them before I click. If a person isn't willing to introduce themselves, then I have the right to wonder why. Maybe they just don't want to socialize, maybe it's legit, but since I don't read minds, I have to use common sense and avoid people who seem to be unwilling to do the minimum. Not being willing to invest time/money in a project is something I associate with people who want to be free to pick up and go elsewhere once the scam is burned. It may be unfair to the nonscammer but I think protecting my safety is more important than protecting an unknown person's sensitive feelings. I run into these every now and then on the free TV sites. I would have to crash my PC to get out of them. Until I stumbled on to the fix. When this happens. 1.Press and hold down the Esc key until the popup window leaves. And keep holding it down. 2. While holding down the Esc keep hitting the X button with your mouse until the page leaves. Works for me.

I took the link down because that video was causing me too much grief. But, you did start a lively, meandering thread.

I enjoyed the link and know that jimmy Fallon does some things that are very similar to the method that you used to show your art work. This was a novel way to show your art.

Yeah I just had to crash my PC to escape it but I'll definitely try that.

I saw the video. Showed it to my wife. We liked it. I'm impressed by the art, energy, and passion. Sorry it's down. My effort consists of chicken picken' on boards. Keep on keepin' on. Colin

I am probably the newest kid on the block here, but I'd like to weigh in with my 2 cents worth. I've been "lurking" for about a month and a half and finally joined. I hope to do some selling, buying and trading. I have a lot to learn, about the people here, the hobby itself, even how to post pics. I'm not ready to sell yet.
I have joined this site NOW. I want people to get to know me before I "set up shop", and I want to get to know them. A sale is a two way street, and it goes better when there is trust and mutual respect on both sides.
I hope to contribute when my equipment is set up, and I know how to post pictures (I've scanned the tutorial, and plan to play around with it this week).
Anyhoo. the Peanut Gallery has spoken.

Geezer Like this. Lurk, learn, and then contribute. Even though Intheswamp is a new guy too I'd trust him enough to buy from him if he were selling. He's posted and interacted so much being new... If people only want to post to sell they should go to the buy/sell/trade lapidary groups on Facebook. Here we wanna show off our stuff we have, made (both rocks and maxhines), and just kick back in a friendly way and even rant in the political threads (stepping on egg shells) ;-)

Well I got my 2 boxes from Ms. Olivia. Both large pieces were beyond my expectations. She even threw in an extra small piece and let me know if I wasn't satisfied I could trade them out if I came through one day. I will say I am satisfied. Want to get my big saw going so I can cut the green Mary Ellen, pretty rare stuff. I will say that the transaction went seamless and I am extremely happy with what was sent.
