in the spirit of the cab competitions, I thought it would be fun to try a tumbleoff... Roger offers an FRB of random materials as this month's prize. Rules. Enter your best single piece. Image both sides, no hiding pits on the backside. No cabachons. Rotary or vibe.... entries must be tumbled not hand finished. Restricted to tumbles FINISHED this month. Photos should include a before and finished image. For the before, you won't know which you entered at that time, so a group pick is good. Multiple images showing the entire stone should be included. no hiding uglies on the backside. Ties decided by first earlier entry meviva cannot enter. She won the world championship... in the event i missed a rule needed, we will steal the rules from cab competitions... Identify your species... one offs and random unnamed varities allowed. Just provide all the data ya can. Locality, jasper/agate/obsidian from xyz... I KNOW THE NAME SUX. HELP ME PICK A BETTER ONE Tumble-apolooza? lol Thanks @rockpuckerforever, i ficked it.

10 days into the month and I've already got my second batch coming out of the Lot O tonight. Lot's of lakers, Bahia's, picture jasper and some crazy lace to look through. Don't think the ocean jasper is going to sneak in under the wire this month.

Awesome! This will be my entry. Luckily, I took a photo of the rough last night before I started my run. Rough material - messy stuff but I just knew there was good stuff in it, otherwise; why would Santa have been putting this in my stocking every year? Fist clean out - I have to admit I was beginning to have some doubts. After 5 minutes of tumbling my patience was getting thin on getting worthwhile finished stones, even with rocks from Santa. Second clean out - after 10 minutes, yes TEN FULL MINUTES, I finally started seeing some promise with this mess. You guys & gals have no idea how difficult it can be waiting so long for any kind of positive results! I mean, TEN MINUTES!! I must be a saint to be so patient! Final clean out - 25 long minutes after I began this ordeal, I finally had my finished run. Close-up of a few totally legit, in no way faked or photoshopped, finished tumbles from last nights run. Kidding aside - great idea @shotgunner . I think there are a lot more tumbling lurkers on the boards than cabbers, carvers, wrappers, or smiths. This should get some great participation. Reading between the lines of the desciptions of "my entry" is why I won't participate in the contests..dear Lord you tumbling people have patience! But - I will sponsor next month's (June 2016) contest prize, if okay. I have a 12# Star Diamond rotary tumbler with a Lortone 12# Barrel that I don't want or need. It is used, but both parts are in good condition. Photos of it are posted in "The buy sell and swap shop" section of the members forum.
The caveat is; the winner sends me their entire tumble run, not just the voted on stone(s) and I send them the tumbler. My wife wants a lot tumbled stones and I have zero patience for tumbling them
EDIT: After talking with Scott more, I will put together a flat-rate box of small rough to send the winner Roger

@roger sounds good, let us allow the winner to decide if they want the trade.
Maybe you have some craps from cab making you can offer freely?

@roger sounds good, let us allow the winner to decide if they want the trade. Maybe you have some craps from cab making you can offer freely? I genuinely don't keep any cuts / scraps that I don't plan to cab. They all go into my pond, flower beds, or scattered through my dry creek beds. Offering the tumbler as a potential "prize" in exchange for a nice run of polished stones was just an idea. I don't want to put it out there if it would be perceived poorly and people won't enter the contest because of it. If the winner wouldn't want to trade their run for the tumbler they certainly wouldn't be obligated to do it.

I have to see if I have anything contest worth that has come out in May. I've just been a little too busy to look.

Alice was a crazy MF but knew how it rock and roll, and get crowd going. He used my snakes for a half dozen years. Super laid back. Runs 5k or plays a round of golf every day. Wore out the 30somethings in his band.

.... entries must be tumbled not hand finished. For clarification can the piece be hand shaped *before* tumbling? IE could someone shape a cab in it's entirety then tumble it? You would be able to tell a tumbled piece because every edge would be rounded over from the tumbling. I don't have enough material ready to feed my 10-lb vibe this month but I like the idea and I will try to enter in June. Other tumbling contests I've seen here and abroad were pretty intimidating for a novice like me. There's a lot of bad-ass tumblers on this board and I hope they also get excited about entering.

No cabs..... there is a contest for those.
