Thank you everyone who participated and for all the kind words ... and the winner is ... (drumroll please) When we pulled into our driveway tired and happy our trip meter "A" read "2416" Congratulations rockpickerforever you missed it by two. Nice job If I remember right you won the last mileage guessing game too haha. PM me your address and I'll get your chunk of Utah agate sent out.
Dang, but I'm getting good at that game! Let's see, first five off the mark, now only two off. Maybe next time I hit it right on the money?
I have only two words to say - "Tracking Device!" Just kidding... I just know how to follow directions, use maps, and do math.
Sorry for bumping you out of contention, walt ! You would have had it.
Thanks for the congrats, Bill orrum , Diane drocknut , Pat , and Victor victor1941 . And thank you, Tommy and Eva for the fun game.
Aside from astounding memory, we have discovered Jeans new superpower! Miles guessing!!! Yay! Jean!!
Thank you, Scott, but you give me way too much credit. Superpowers, huh? Hmmm...
Ah shucks, why, thank you, James.
Bill, I expect you to do the next "guess the mileage" game, so be sure to take plenty of photos of your next trip (consolation prize?), write up a really cool report, a la Tommy, John herchenx and many others (you know who you are!), and get everybody guessing. Maybe you could even win it?
Jean

rockpickerforever said I just know how to follow directions, use maps, and do math.
I think that is a better method than mine. I knew Tommy lived near Pleasanton, so I figured the mileage to south western Utah to be about 865 miles (thanks to Google maps), added a few hundred miles for side trips, doubled it for the distance back home, and it was close to my address, so I used my address. Voila! Wrong

Ha ha! I have his actual address, so more precise than just putting in his city. Mapped his convoluted meandering, then added an additional 5%, for all those little side trips you didn't realize added up to so much (another 115 miles). I'm not one of those to just randomly throw numerous wild guesses out (can you hear me, orrum? lol). There is a method to the madness... Spent several hours Sunday afternoon on it. It was fun, he put a lot of effort into his riddles. Kudos to Tommy and Eva for the game, story and great pictures! 2416 / 13 MPG equals 186 gallons of gas, times average of, let's say $4 a gallon? $744!! Wow, but I know you enjoyed it. (Don't feel bad, my V10 only gets 10 MPG tops, lol.)

Figuring it out reminds me of the nightmare called Algebra 1. "If Tommy and Eva left at x, arrived at y at z.... How many miles did they travel if they had a nice cold beer every night?
Gaaaaa!

Would have been hard to explain to Walt but right or wrong, the rules is rules I guess haha.

It dropped further in AZ to about $2.30 if I remember right. Probably between $550 and $600 total ... ouch haha. Still cheaper than air-fair to Hawaii though

I think the fisherman was 2nd.
I know one thing for sure...I was not last but a loser nonetheless.

I think the fisherman was 2nd. Instant replay shows that yes you are correct ... fishe Nman came in second for closest without going over.

Heck Jean, all that calculating and such is way too much work for me. I just pick a number, guess that's why I don't win.

Diane, Diane, Diane... gotta keep those gears turning and the brain lubricated! LOL. (Or maybe it's just a symptom of OCD?)

Do you lubricate a brain just like you lubricate a slab saw? Not OCD, but rather CRS or getting older...lol.

Tommy , I try not to do that too often anymore, lol. But yes, definitely enjoyable, lets you forget your cares for a little while. Can't afford to lose too many more brain cells, ha! Yes, spiceman , I like to "play" on lumosity! Great brain games! Also like the webster's vocabulary quiz. In my spare time... Jean

I guess I should mention that the prize for winning (" a humble prize of a single, self-collected Utah agate rock from the Casto Canyon agate hill location") was received from Tommy a day ago. Took some pics, here they are. (Oops, didn't wash the dirt off first. Tommy, you were supposed to do that before sending it!)
Tried to get it from all angles so all y'all could enjoy it to the max, see what you missed out on.
So ya see what ya missed out on? Next time, you'll do a little brain work and make educated guesses, lol.
It's a nice chunk o' rock, just a hunka hunka burning love, HA! Do I break it up for tumbles? Maybe slice a couple slabs off it for cabbing, then break it into tumbler fodder? Tumbles will have to wait until tumbler is empty.
Thanks, Tommy!!

You're welcome Jean! I left the dirt on on purpose thinking you would take one look at the dirty thing and decide you needed to return it to sender immediately... Enjoy and let us see what kind of lovelies you make out of it.
