Pfft is right! Dang those obligations!
I am happy to learn your proportions are spot on. Nice work. That is no easy challenge.
I will patiently await your results. Where is your shop?

We are located in Winter Haven Fl. A small 2 man shop that does everything from entry level granite tops to extreme over the top magazine scale interior design sensations. We specialize in the latter.

Bad ass!! I sold kitchens for a minute a few years ago. Loved the granite work. My boss had no vision and wouldn't go after those types of jobs. I did one and he was ticked off said it was "risky"... Lol
I just missed on a fancy dentist office. 11 amazonite slabs. $110k worth of slabs, plus labor!
Keep after it man. I'm inspired!

Would love to see the tool set that was used to take cube to ball.
Wow!
That looks faster than out 4" lapidary balls.

http://instagram.com/p/BPlYHOhgC9m i got my son to take some oics whike i was polishing. I made a custom backer out of a super flex backer and a piece of hardwood turned into a cove to match the eadius of the sphere.

I wonder if you made a turn table with a set of little roly wheels that you could spin in all directions while you grind with that tool.
ETA like spin horizontal and vertical and the same.time
This is a terrific thread!!

And with coaster Roly wheels on top of that turntable, it could spin vertically too. Making truly random motion. Due to never spending too.much time in one place this makes your ball closer to perfect sphere.

Due to never spending too.much time in one place this makes your ball closer to perfect sphere. My neighbor and I were talking about rhat on Saturday. (He is an aeronautical engineer). We were discussing the possibility of using that kind of setup, but we both thought the wheels mayget gunked up with slurry. It might work with a way for the slurry to have an escape from below the rollers.. all on all, i am very pleased with the roundness of it. It is way better than i even expected and i have OCD when i work on stuff like this. I found a sweet spot on the cup wheel that spins the ball while i am grinding as i slowly work my way from the "equator" to the north pole.

I'm thinking cheap disposable ball wheels that will any direction. If I had to replace the set of three every ball I'd be happy.
But maybe I'm making it needlessly complicated.

We also discussed the possibility of motorizing the turntable creating a sort of potters wheel and approaching it as if it were a vertical lathe. Using a slow rotation and moving the piece across the tool. This is my very first sphere so i will have to figure out those details while i am spending many hours polishing this one.
