My daughter mentioned this group but I took a while to join. But I am a member of the FB group and got reminded about the forum. I thought it might be intimidating to a rank beginner like me, but NOPE. You have all been welcoming and I'm glad I finally got here!!!!

Bought our Granddaughter (7 yrs) a National Geographic tumbler and wanted more info on the process and found your site. Looking forward to learning right along with her!!!! Did this because we literally have to frisk her after passing any kinda of rocks, especially people's landscaping. Figured we could encourage her to collect the right way. LoL

Really getting into the hobby and just did a Startpage search for rock tumbling tips. Being an older computer geek, I remembered how much fun and how much you can learn from a forum. Nothing is held back and people always seem to want help. I missed that comarderie from the early days when we all were running BBS’s.

It was a while ago, but what i do recall is that I was looking for info on some sort of stone (don't remember which one, but chances are that it was some kind of jasper or agate), and an RTH thread came up as one of the results. After reading I wandered through the site a bit, and then joined. I suppose this could be either "Search Engine" or "Stumbled." I chose the latter in the poll.

Back in 2007,I tried to quit my habit of beer drinking, which I was overdoing.Found an old tumbler in my garage which I had purchased in the 70's. Looked online to see if I could find grit for it. Ran across this site.Read on it daily for a year and a half, until joining in 2009.Purchased many boxes of rocks from members on here.Gave me a new interest and haven't had a drink since.

That is what set me off on my quest to find the right formula of rotary rocks running to keep my lot-o producing finished rocks each and every week. Chuck

I have to comment here. I joined only to learn more about modern lapidary/tumbling after a 25 year absence. What I have found over the past 2 years is a wonderful group of people. If I have a question on tumbling, cabbing, wire wrapping, rock ID, many will chime in. The level of support is more than I ever imagined.
The off topic threads are also amazing. I have many new "family" members thanks to RTH.
Everything I have learned in the short time here has helped me to have the confidence and knowledge to help others. Both here and on the RTH Facebook page. Am constantly referring Facebook members here to gain more knowledge from the long time experts.
RTH is the best out there for anyone on all levels. Collecting rocks, tumbling rocks, cabbing, wire wrapping, doing metal work, Intarsia. Those wanting to learn and grow.
Feel fortunate to have met, in person, a few RTH members. Also made some new connections with those who love rocks from across Northern America.
This is not your typical forum, but a family of members who help each other. Even if they need help in things other than lapidary related.
RTH has changed my life in so many ways.

I was looking for field trip locations, for my vicinity, and stumbled across it.
I wasn't even tumbling rocks then. Just looking for free directions, really.

While looking for information about sawing rocks, i.e. blade speed and feed speed, I followed a link posted in another forum.
