Wowza! Some beautiful spears being made. Love that little point. Looks like an angel fish.
College colors are huge. You could sell school colors all day long, I bet. I don't think that middle one is ugly, it's Halloweeney!
That last clear spear is totally awesome!

Hi Dave, I live in Phoenix, the self cleaning floor sounds great, whats' a basement? Cheers, johnw So you live near mohs ! A basement would have to be the first floor of a two story home with the Salt River raging from time to time. What are the chances of getting you to share some photos of those curious "Hanging Tongue Caves" all over the Papago Buttes? Hi dave, not sure what the "Hanging Tongue Caves" are but I will show you a shot of cave outcroppings I took in Korea over the holidays. Cheers, johnw

It is the brightly colored opaque import glass that is grabbing those guys Robin. It just blends well with their bodacious spearheads and it casts into a material like pure flawless chert. Some are being challenged flaking some of the colors like black glass a bit since it is one of the hardest glasses. The masters are breezing thru it and find it exhilarating to work. I used to tumble coral a lot, it is one of the most sought after napping materials because of it's flaking properties. You can pull up a chair on a shoal in the Withlacoochee River and fill a bucket of fine tumbles chipping 10 pound coral heads in 20 minutes on a lap board with a 4 ounce hammer. It is one of the few rivers with entire shoals made of chips from Native man. Source material for arrowheads and scrapers for a 100 mile radius. Anyway, this rare and rejected pile of glass is probably the perfect toe hold for a great market with the nappers for years to come. I figured the brick casts with 2 dozen colors would come apart. Not the case. Just like tumbling, the quality of your tumbles are directly related to the quality of the rock in appearance and mechanical properties. A perfect medium for a specific culture of folk artists. Like finding a large vein of brilliant fire opal as hard as agate. Another fringe benefit will be a collection of points from some of the finest nappers in the world.

Like the pink and green. Yes, team colors would be big, not only for points, but for pendants.

Like the pink and green. Yes, team colors would be big, not only for points, but for pendants. What is funny is how many requests I get for the well coordinated feminine colors Beth. Pink is one of the most common requests. Many are gun toting knife yielding ex military type folks. Plenty of hunter/commando types. Many requesting the feminine color mixes that you gals have been coaching me on. School colors a constant request. Sure has been good turning the glass tumblers off. Now I only tumble the colors and end cuts from point end cuts to add with their order. Spearheads for Dad and pendants for Mom of matching material.

Cool idea. Another thought is small, solid, pendants of birthstone colors. Use for a (Grand)Mothers pendant. Add different colors as needed.
The middle one above you called ugly reminds me of candy corn.

I was going to ask in a PM, but you sharing that photo made me glad I messed up! Thanks for sharing. You can read about the caves in the "Pre-Phoenix" thread. forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/78462/pre-phoenixThe accepted theory is they are wind blown caves in sandstone made over millions of years, but . . . They are formed from two thick coats of mud over granite buttes. The lower mud layer is purple and filled with chunks if granite and metamorphic rhyolite up to two feet in diameter. The upper mud coat is iron red and filled with chunks of granite and metamorphic rhyolite up to 15 feet in diameter. AND the material from the caves didn't blow away. It is all still there, hanging out of the caves.

Yes, but...
To me these appear more human made. The additions may have had some significance, either for durability or other reasons.

Hi, thank's everyone for sharing, yes , these are incredible pictures and I can appreciate the erosion of time that has left the results we see today. Now, while I realize this is a "glass" thread and don't want to hijack it, the first thing that hit me when looking at the picture was the cute doggie by the step. It seems that ever since joining "What do you see in a stone" thread, my eyes automatically just zoom in on any faces in a picture. Dang, I think, I am afflicted with an incurable ailment..................... Cheers, johnw

Sorry I didn't add to the mysterious sand stone wind tunnel syndrome. Gotta make glass for these spear throwers. Here's Adam + meglass. Adam a famed napper. Can't believe he would stoop to my slag trash glass. Go Adam !! Paleo style Cumberland ??

Like it! Keep posting the new spears as you get them. I love seeing how the different color combos actually end up looking after the knappers have had their way with them.

Been making the boys 9x6 bricks. Glass bricks tricky. Easy to get cracks, must let cool slow for 3 days. Tiger Flame, easy to do. Great 2/3 color melt for sports team colors. Note black glass bleeds, black glass is usually dark purple.

Increasing tensile in the glass for longer flakes. Intention is to make your ears ring, a desirable sound for good napping material.
