My cousin in NC is only 50 miles inland. She was on FB doing a live video, standing on the porch. Hard rain and heavy wind. You could see the water rising pretty fast. She was having a good time until lightening struck the tree not far in front of her. They decided to get inside.

We will laugh about it later, but dam that was scary!

Dang, it's a good thing it didn't land on her. That poor family that had the tree fall on them weren't as lucky. That's probably the most hazardous thing about this storm -- the trees coming down. There will be a lot more of that as the ground was already saturated before the storm. With the rain making it a soggy mess, it's not going to take all that much wind to knock them over.

LOL this kind of sums up my point from earlier... wait for it... One of the reasons I live in Phoenix Az. No Tornados, no Hurricanes, no Typhoons, no Earthquakes, just a flood every 100 years so I'll take those odds. Cheers, johnw

Those walking in the background without problems undermine the DRAMA. Haha that was the point. The reporter is fighting for survival while a couple of bro's in shorts are strolling around behind him. This video is going viral right now - as I said this morning The Weather Channel is making fools of themselves.

Agree. Reporter says wind is 60mph. Inset says 29, with gusts to 48. Another question--- trees in background are blowing furiously, but the two men in the background aren't affected at all. Something is fishy.

Something is fishy. Wouldnt put it past them to set up fans. Then again, the video could of been spliced together. Background is different and they dont even seem to recognize a camera crew is there. Which boys normally would be goofing off at the camera

Wouldnt put it past them to set up fans. Agree. Reporter says wind is 60mph. Inset says 29, with gusts to 48. Come on, no need for conspiracy theories here. The official wind speed readings are from the local airport or weather station, which may be different from just about anywhere else in the region, including where a reporter stands. The trees in the background are consistent with what is going on in the foreground. No wind machine is going to blow that big of an area. The guys strolling around don't appear that comfortable, but nothing there that isn't in the realm of 48-60 mph gusts. No reputable mainstream outfit is going to put out spliced-together footage or manufactured scenes - in this day of mobile phone cameras everywhere, they'd get caught in an instant. Television is, and has always been, about getting video, so yeah they're going to send reporters out into the wind and rain, or into the biggest puddle at hand, to illustrate their story. Similarly, a newspaper photo is going to show the worst hit cars in a multi-car pileup - not the cars that just got a slightly dented fender - to illustrate their story. Nothing illegitimate about that. I don't/won't pay for cable or satellite, so I don't see the Weather Channel, but saw nothing on the main over-the-air network coverage that went beyond the dire warnings already being issued by everyone from the National Hurricane Center, to the president, to governors, to mayors and local authorities. That's all their jobs: warn of potential threats, report on conditions and assess damage. Yeah, there's the "cry wolf" syndrome, but they have no choice (they've been rightly blamed in the past for not doing enough of that). That said, we get 60-120 mph gusts up here in the mountains several times a year. Tend to stay indoors and can do some minor damage, but not all that big a deal for structures that were built to code. Still, just because you escape one threat doesn't mean that you fall for the false narrative that its all hype and end up being complacent when the next one comes along. If there is a conspiracy, let me throw this one out: following the money takes you to the bottled water industry. They MUST be the ones behind hurricanes and other natural disasters. Since when has water in plastic bottles been the thing? Understand that scam even less than I do paying for cable or satellite TV.

That last post is sad. Did not want to like it, but wanted to comment. Considering the price gouging and lack of survival items available in the area. Hope relief arrives soon for those there.
