miket - My wife wanted me to ask you if you had heard about leaving Fairburns out in the sun (like in a window) to "dry out" and get the UV exposure, in order to get the colors in the banding to become more "brilliant"?

I have not- however, one guy that I hunt with coats them with mineral oil and bakes them at a low temp. He swears that it brings out the colors. Edit- if you leave yours out let me know and I'll be by!!! 🤪

Yeah...the only reason I got the in situ pics was because they were her finds! LOL - She was taking pics and videos...so I had a chance! LOL She probably would find enough! LOL miket - My wife wanted me to ask you if you had heard about leaving Fairburns out in the sun (like in a window) to "dry out" and get the UV exposure, in order to get the colors in the banding to become more "brilliant"? Maybe there IS something to the UV exposure...but I figure they're pretty well "dried" by the time they're found. If I leave mine out, it wouldn't be worth the trip...if she leaves HERS out, it definitely would be! LOL

Well...you weren't skunked!! Glad you were able to get out. It looked like y'all had decent weather. They had said potential thunderstorms for us...but it all stayed north of us...like usual.

PLEASE post pics of that one when you get it cut!! I will, my friend- even though I've never had much luck cutting into one. It's usually just a rock on the inside... There's always a first time I suppose!

There's always a first time I suppose! I haven't had any luck cutting the ones that I THINK have possibilities on the interior! LOL I have half a dozen sitting on the saw from the last trip I made...waiting to get cut. Once I cut them, I'm sure the dream will be over...but as long as they're sitting there intact, I think there's "still a chance"! LOL

Went out today with a friend of mine and his dad. These pictures are of one that his dad found. I'll post pics of the one I found tomorrow, it's not as nice but still pretty cool. Thanks for looking!

I posted this in another thread...but this is the Fairburn I found while Rob (jugglerguy) was visiting. It's been broken open for quite a long time as the surface has discolored to a brown/tan color. The "bottom" was recently broken...so I'm positive if I were to polish this one, I believe the surface and the fortifications would have purple in them. (It's the biggest one I've ever found!!)
