Believe it or not. This is Swartz canyon oak. Been slabbing this piece up. There was a section of this piece that was agatatized and this was the result. I'm about to put some of this on dop and cab it some time this week... I can't wait to see them. That is some beautiful material, right there.

Hi woodman , here you go! I know Saturday is when you post a photo but this was my first chance to get some taken and posted as well. As mentioned above this is Hell's Canyon Petrified Sequoia wood. I just ran across this. What a stash you have! It makes great cabs too, as I'm sure you know. I ran across the guy who's credited with having the last remaining bulk stock of Hell's Canyon wood and was able to buy some slabs. I haven't photographed the slabs (plan to soon) but I got an image on one of the cabs last night. This one has lots of tiny "pecky" crystal-lined voids that don't show well in this image. I'll try to get an image that shows them better if anyone's interested. BTW, that lovely blue fluorite with dogtooth calcite crystals I'm using as a background is "on loan" from hummingbirdstones .

Stunning cab! Whenever I saw a decent Hell's Canyon cab, just like yours, I was like: what the hell...

I'll shoot more pix asap. I don't have nearly as much to show off as you do, so I look forward to more images from you as well.

gemfeller I agree. Never enough!🤣 Back when he was selling it on eBay I mostly bought slabs. Wish I’d bought more rough. At the time I didn’t foresee having any cutting capabilities. Which I still, technically, don’t. But I do now have an almost refurbished drop saw. This material is one I’ve been “saving” until I get good enough at cabbing. But, recent life events have made me think to just go ahead and cut it, use it now. Life is too short to just keep it stashed away and “protected”.

realrockhound Don’t know how I missed this. Busy I guess, or fell asleep while checking my notifications. Very nice. Did you cut the Hells Canyon cab? And do the wrap? What did you think of working the material? Mine are all still display or stash pieces. I’ve pulled out some small ones to finally cut soon but just didn’t want to risk it until now with my capabilities.
