gemfeller Very nice, I love this stuff! Did you buy your slabs from Tony? Please do post pics once you find time!! Yes, Tony Schultz. I didn't buy nearly enough but there's never"enough," right? I'll shoot more pix asap. I don't have nearly as much to show off as you do, so I look forward to more images from you as well. I promised to make more images of some of my Hell's Canyon slabs . I finally got around to it. These are the most promising I have for cabbing. I'm a cabber, not a specimen collector, so nearly everything I collect is eventually headed to the old Genie's wheels. I especially like the "pecky" slabs. I think they offer more opportunities for creative cutting, but to each his own. From my reading I understand plans to destroy the dams on the lower Snake River are pretty well advanced, so one day in the future more of this great material may come to light. There won't be any power to cut it with but that's another topic.      |

gemfeller I don’t know how I missed this post! Very nice Hells Canyon! I just finally slabbed a little of mine up. I had some small, limb size rough that I cut as well as some other slabs that I put in the traveling box. That is interesting info about the dam. Will definitely keep watching that.

Real nice Piece of Hubbard Basin i got in the mail today! Bob, I've found that most of my Hubbard Basin wood fluoresces with a great variety of colors under the UV light. |

 I purchased a chunk of Hubbard Basin wood. It was about 3 inches chick so I decided to slab it up. glued it to a piece of agate i had in 4the saw and got 5 nice slabs off of it. Now to get them polished! |

The Hubbard basin slab looks beautiful! Never thought of gluing to another rock. Are you gluing both surfaces to the carboard? If so are you using carpentry glue? I'm surprised there's not more oil on that cardboard.

I'm surprised there's not more oil on that cardboard. First I clean the piece in the saw with acetone then using CA I glue the cardboard to the rock in the saw. Then I glued the wood to the cardboard. I spray the rock in the vixe with excelerator, glue on cardboard, then smear it around a bit and then hold for a few seconds for the ca to go off. repeat with wood to the cardboard.. cardboard does get oil in it but no problem with that. I helped a friend do this to some real heavy pieces. Took both of us to lift the wood and hold while glue seets up. |

If there's a three-piece slate table, I've seen them put a piece of card stock (like an index card) between the pieces of slate...soak it with cyanoacrylate...and it holds the two pieces together like a sonofagun! |

brybry Very interesting on that last pic, the mottled black and brown. I’d love to see how that polishes up, or even just wet.

Virgin valley opal limb (end cut). Got some nice long limbs of this stuff that are fairly thick. Might be cool to cut for a contest cab.  |

Was over at a customer's house the other day. Saw this and HAD to get a picture! Supposedly this is from here in South Dakota...but I've never seen anything like it!! It appears to be opalized...  |
