Erica, that may be the coolest piece of oolite I've ever seen. Excellent find! Thank you!! Some rocks are just the perfect combo of fossil + rock.

Oh, boy I'm glad I found this thread! Sometimes I find a rock that I want to post, but I don't want to start a whole thread on it. So, don't make fun of me, but I was SO excited when I found this awesome piece of oolitic rock on a gravel road near my house today. I find tons of oolitic chert and chalcedony around here, but usually the oolites are much smaller. I have found some other oolites this big, but the whole rock was much smaller. Now I just have to decide what to do with it. The possibilities are endless! That seriously is one of the coolest rocks EVER!! Sweet find on that one!!

jasoninsd . Thank you! Now is the dry time of year when all the rocks on the gravel road are covered in dust, but those oolites just popped!

I found this a few days ago in Salt River it quite a rare geological specimen to me maybe not to others. butte certainly uncommon for this area maybe its common in other far away areas ? or perhaps it just a leaverite? not sure what it really is besides some sort of sedimentary structure anyway I escalated the identification issue I've gave it some serious attention and my analysis of the rock is in the daza gneiss thread forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/96237/daza-gneiss?page=13it quite lengthy and maybe boring it may not even make sense haha haven't gotten any feedback so how would one know? or maybe that is the answer

My Sierra dog gave me this yesterday. I was outside and she was barking for me to come over. As I walked toward her, she pushed it with her nose. Central Wisconsin Ordovician Oolitic agate. The Ordovician period lasted 485.4 million years ago to 443.8 million years ago · It was a time when the transition from very primitive to relatively modern life-forms in the seas occurred. I have found other agates of this type on my land. This is the first one Sierra found. She knew it was a good find. These often have fossil sea life in them. Are a mix of chalcedony. Chert, sugar quartz, jasper and crystals are common. Sometimes there is agate banding.

Found a 5 lb. block of this labeled Dynasty Jasper. It came from a bunch of estate rocks so . . . . Looks like a rhyolitic material to me, but should be promising for polish.

Doing some makeovers at work and was able to score this. Should make a nice display case when I get it cleaned up 👍

I found a box from the Rock Shed :
A beautiful piece of Pietersite that I had given up finding at a reasonable price:
A nice slab of Indonesian coral (to help make the shipping worthwhile)
And the very best (gotta love Shawn for this one) FREE rocks.
OK, OK, I know everyone loves their candy from the Rock Shed, but I don't eat sugar.
SO, I wrote on my order notes- hold the candy, just wish you had a free rock
And he sent 2 pieces of tumbled Sodalite
I'm a happy camper Patty

Dang Patty! Nice slab of Pietersite! I've had my eye out for a "steal of a deal" on Pietersite...but the only deals I saw was where I thought they were trying to steal my money! LOL - Really gorgeous piece which should yield some really nice cabs!

Well all cleaned up. Dunno if I like it or not, the plastic panels are riveted in and it makes some of the rocks seem inaccesible. Something aesthetically pleasing about the organization of it however...maybe I'll add some kind of felt to lie down under the dividers
