"3) I'm amazed you didn't have the ability to simply ban board members; seems to be a good safety feature found on most boards." I was out all day and came in from shopping for fish for my new fishtank when I saw what had happened. Banning members is an available option - but I wasnt in the house at the time - never mind online Oh well. Silly me. Oh my oh my I am so silly.

I thought I left it late at 37 - thats life - god he'll be in parents evenings with 25 year old parents when hes about 59!!!! (Well my math is lets say "about" accurate but not far off. you get the drift.) I think its cool.

"And the vision, that was planted in my brain, It still remains".. Its always with you KJ, once into the rocks there will come a time when you need a fix. Im like that at the moment and have been for a good 12months - but everything I do in my garage is geared towards starting my tumblers up again. Fantastic song - one of my favs of the boys - as was/is "Bright Eyes". (I keep rabbits Cheers Mark

Condor I had to just say that those large rocks you have managed to tumble polish are superb looking. I have some large agates Ive wanted to give a go since I started in this, I failed in my attempts - probably due to the barrel size being too small. Im sorry for diverting the thread - but did you "sacrifice" a lot of rough in order to gain the early stage shaping for the large rocks? I find I tend to have to put a load of smaller rocks in the barrel which I know Ill never see again In the hope that they will shape the target rock. Cheers Mark

"Chuffed" - means "pleased". I'm pleased/chuffed that another 100 milestone has been reached. I think to build something strong, one has to expect it to take years. The longer something takes to build - the stronger it is. Just wafling really but I think that stands true. Mark.

Well guys what can I say,
First up for those who didnt see my original post I said the words "im sick of it" - meaning what was going on - I deleted that as I felt it too strong. Over expressive (but generally how I felt).
I also said "a word of advice - get a grip" - this I deleted as I felt it was also heat of the moment. I added some helpful advice to the post because its more appropriate than me blowing off steam.
I would like the "policy" in place, I would have hoped never to "say" it - but I have done.
I cant actually enforce the "rule" anyway unless someone PMs me to tell me whats happening. As I cannot read private PMs (quite rightly!!)
I take a simpler view for my own sanity here. As this has worn me out mentally. The simpler view I have adopted is as follows.....
Please compare these two "policies" below.
Policy 1 ---------------------- I openly invite everyone to mail everyone about their boards which are totally different, similar or identical to this one. ----------------------
Policy 2 ---------------------- I do not want a member of this board to collect "PM and email information" from the member lists stored on this board in order to mass contact the members of this board, for the purpose that they may be invited to join another board of a similar nature. ---------------------------
Probably - somewhere between 1 and 2 there is a comfortable place for the majority of people to sit. Policy 1 is the exact opposite of policy 2.
People leaving over it? I cant stop that. People banned? None. People welcome back? - All.
Wording - "steal" - I dont think I said "steal" - That implies that the members here belong to me - which is ofcourse absurd and infact quite comical.
One more point - I havent mentioned anyone - ive just brought in the policy. Which I think is the way I think I should have done it.
Mark.

Doc. "This must be really hard for you" Ive quoted u there - yes - I dont want to make up and invent rules and be a dictator, but I had to so as to protect the interests of this board which will be here for as long as I live. I havent banned anyone over this, and also I would be LOATHED to do so. But the board comes first. Luke pics - I'll fire a few up - hes just started walking so i'll try and shoot some whilst hes on his feet Cheers as always Doc. Mark

Adrian, in answer to your question - PMs are not checked by anyone here - they are completely private, there are no facilities for anyone on this board (myself included) to view any PMs which are sent to any other members.

Doods,
Any member of this board who "uses" this board as a springboard to launch their own board will be banned.
And to be quite frank, the entire internet population despises this practice of PM ing members of a given board to "glean" or "recruit" them to "another board".
I dont want to be a kill joy.
Trade with members here. Fine. Advertise your website here for free (in sigs/posts)- Fine.
EMAIL OR PM THE MEMBERS HERE to join your site - No.
As a more relaxed version of this message (as ive got it off my chest now) - I would give the following advice - SERIOUSLY.
Learn to do SEO - building a site is done by utilising the search engines to bring interested parties to the information you have built/created.
Choose your keywords carefully when doing SEO, your websites should be visible to people who WANT to find you, but try not to aim too high and go for the most popular keywords right away.
I would say that one of the most helpful places regarding SEO I have ever come across is webmasterworld.com.
Soz if I seemed a bit sharp - I tend to let things build up and then I kind of blow off steam.
I hope the advice helps those wanting to start websites. The advice there I give is 100% the basis of this forum. Whilst its only a starting point - the reading anyone does at webmasterworld will make any site a success.
Mark

Jeff, my first tumble batch was a mixture of rocks which were supposed to be of "around" the same hardness.
1st point of call for your early tumbles in my view would be stick to one type of rock per barrel.
With this in mind - the best results I had were with "Rose Quartze". It isnt expensive, and its quite a hard rock which gives a good shine.
In my experience - Obsidian is second hardest to to get a shine on, and my personal failure is Malachite which is relatively soft and therefore hard to get a shine on with a tumbler (however there are plenty of people here who have done it).
Start with Rose Quartze and Amethyst second (in my book), use your various barrels for different stages - try not to get too much rock going at once.
AND DONT RUSH THINGS!!!! Mark.

Bill has some great pics, however..... dot dot dot......
I seriously think that people like us can do FAR better.
For example - I wouldnt use any pics there or steal from him because I can do great closeups with a 50$ camera on macro - let alone the new slr ive got.
Sorry - but bill is in the competetive world like the rest of us - he knows it for sure.
Rule of thumb - dont steal - just do better.
