A few packages arrived today. Some cacoxenite from an ebay seller and Morgan Hill, Jellybean and boulder opal from Martin Kramer on Facebook. These and the specimens were trimmed. I need to grind shapes one the specimens except the lace agate which will look good when ground.

At one time, I was using the Scotch double sided tape between the dop and the cab with superglue on both sides of the tape on Montana moss agates because the dop was really stuck on.
I used the freeze and pop method. I now insert a xacto chisel blade between the dop and cab with the flat side against the cab. I gently tap, the end of the blade holder with a utility knife and move the blade around the dop until I find the right spot. I don't bother with freezing.

When I grind, I like to have a purpose. New material is always a motivator. I have some new stuff arriving in the next week or so but no motivation now. The weather turned cold and is warming up enough to grind in the next few days. I have two tumbled pieces and a specimen I'm going to turn into cabs.

I bought a super seven nodule on Etsy to make some cabs. What is desirable, expensive and harder to find is nice cacoxenite (gold filaments) with amethyst. Most of the less expensive pieces are mostly amethyst. The piece arrived and it didn't look like the picture. I weighed it and the weight matched the listing. I contacted the seller about the problem and said that I would send pictures in the morning. These are some of the pictures. I was hoping to get the right piece, but he didn't have it. He sent me a replacement picture and it wasn't as good. He is sending me two larger pieces and am keeping the one he sent. The yield from the pieces should be fair.

I started on a schedule c and wrote in numbers in pencil since the year isn't over. Inventory is tricky because my actual starting inventory starts 15 years before I started selling, so I am choosing Etsy inventory for start and end. I am defining cost of goods sold as what I spent buying materials and supplies since I have records of those. What I buy is not related to what I sell since I make stuff. I'm not buying toasters at wholesale and selling them at retail. Some of what I buy this year will be used to make stuff I will try to sell next year. My costs of making my previous inventory predates my filing as a business. I'm not going to deal with equipment depreciation. I bought a new 14 inch HP saw this year and not using the expense. I am counting wheels and blades since they get used up. Using my method, income is twice expenses, so I will be taxed on about 1/2 of my 1099k totals. Under the old rules, I would not receive any 1099k. I'm not holding my breath for a 1099k reprieve.

Finding cabs to make the selection involved a lot of sorting which needed to be done anyway to make finding cabs easier. This was an added benefit of the sort; empty Riker boxes.

Adding 26 and 27. For those keeping score, I won't make it to 30. I can almost complete 28. I could make some more boxes of lumpy and misshapen. I won't give those away.

6/10 of an inch or 16mm. I used a thinner width of the tape to make removal easier. Some of the pieces are mor fragile. Second from the left is a highly polished piece of pet wood with natural edges. Third from the left is dino bone.

The end is near. I think I can bring the total to 25. I have more that I made that don't make the cut. This one is 23 and made up of weird and big. I am guessing the top left is some kind of a polished tooth. It looks like eyes are staring at me.

You are probably correct. It was from a box of my wife's tumbled stones and that was her birthstone; citrine/topaz.

I had a large piece of Laguna/Crazy lace that had been sitting in a box for a long time. When I finally got around to setting up my Covington 16 combo saw that had been a box for seven years. My wife told me to buy a slab saw and I picked the Covington. I was working and used the free time I had to grind. I put the rock in the saw and thought I had a big score. When I wiped off the oil after cutting a slab, I saw all these fractures and the yield from the piece was far less than expected.
