Just a friendly FYI: If anybody needs coarse grit, Kingsley North has a really good deal going on now. It is size 80 silicon carbide grit and is only $59 for a 45lb bag. And best thing is they can ship it in a USPS Flat Rate box so it is real economical. Here is the link www.kingsleynorth.com/skshop/product.php?id=100837&catID=1053 All totaled, this is even better price than I could get in bulk purchase from the closest sand blasting supplier. Unfortunately, I think it is a very limited supply. Thanks Kingsley. Just in time for the holidays, so we can keep the barrels turning! - Mark Hey Mark, just checked on this.It does not say silicon carbide on this, just 80 abrasive grit.Have you used this before?Just checking before I order some. They say excellent for rotary tumblers. snuffy

We had horned toads around when I was a kid. Not any here anymore. snuffy Nice green pasture! You probably have them in undisturbed areas, unless the fire ants took 'em out. They had disappeared really before the fire ants came.Pastures were needlegrass, red ants and horned toads. The red ants are mostly gone, pastures all improved grasses, and the damn fire ants made a clean sweep of everything in their path looks like.I'm full of stings right now from working outside this past week! snuffy

Jim, when you come to Cali we'll work Lavic. Prolly grab a half ton in two hours with two of us working it. lol Hell; ya gotta quit when the truck is full! lol snuffy thanks for sharing. That is really cool. How deep is the layer of gravel? Shallow enough to make it unsuitable for gophers? On the sandy hills, the layer is a little deeper, gophers dig out the smaller rocks, doesnt phase them.Where I live, the topsoil is thin,on the hard side,no gophers. The layer here is about 2-4 inches under the surface.Every hole my dog digs in the yard, find pet wood. snuffy

Our area is covered with a layer of rocks a couple inches thick, between the topsoil and the clay.I am extending my garden and spading the soil, and picked these out of about a 4 foot bed. Pet wood galore on bottom, and a few jaspers,Lots different colored quartzites, most rounded, apparently washed in by ancient floods,no telling where they originated. We have no native rock here, except some sandstone. This layer was a pain in the arse digging post holes with a hand post hole digger. snuffy

Those look great. I always use 500 AO in my Lot-O. Do you prefer SC? I've never used 500 SC, so now you've got me wondering if there's a difference in how it works. Since this is the first time I used the ao 500,cant really compare.I'm sure if I left the sc in there for ten days, they would be polished too!I usually go to 1000 out of coarse, but thought these rocks could use a 500 bath.I think there has been a discussion on here before about the ao and sc 500. snuffy

I had a bunch of scraps that went through the coarse grind in the past.I filled 2 Loto barrels, and wanted to put 500 grit in the loads, which I rarely use.The only 500 I had was ao,which I had ordered by mistake. To make it short,it ran for ten days, due to laziness.Didnt see the need to run in polish. The batch I had to squeeze the barrel to get some of the large pieces of wood in the barrel This is all local wood More local wood More wood Some bots, coral on bottom Bunch of smalls Thanks for looking snuffy
