Good luck Bob. I'm following along with you on ebay, just to see what it sells for.

Sorry, minds on the annual pheasant pilgrimage to SD. Was wondering how much grit to start with. What Bob said on the lap Tungsten shot only in SD. The law is watching & will probably check what ammo you have loaded. Where in SD will you be hunting ? Bumper crop of birds in the Aberdeen area this year.

Nothing to loose by starting the bidding low. Any other bidders may be waiting for someone to start it out. You might get an idea of how much competition you have.

It has been my understanding that once that first bid is placed, the seller can't withdraw the item.
The exception is that if the seller states in his listing that the item is also listed locally, he can end the bidding if a local buyer pays his price.
Often a seller will place a reserve on an item. An opening bid will be marked "Reserve Not Met". If the reserve is not met by the end of bidding, The seller has the option of accepting the highest bid, or withdrawing & relisting the item. Bidders have no idea of what the reserve is until it has been met.

Will the guy with the saw let you have first pick of the slabs ? If not he may take the best slabs for himself & leave you with junk. How well do you know & trust him ?

WOO HOO !! Money well spent. The box of minerals arrived this afternoon. There are several that I didn't have in my collection. Several more I already have, but from a different location. And I have a home for what I don't keep with a kid in western SD who has a growing collection. A fellow Fairburn agate nut is helping him with it.

Another thing to consider is sawing. Best to wear gloves when handling freshly cut pieces. There will be thousands of tiny obsidian needles stuck to the freshly cut slabs. Have a pair of tweezers and some sort of magnification handy. You'll need them.

Unless the cut on the pieces you're polishing is very rough, there should never be a reason to start with 80 grit. If the cut on your slabs is that rough, there's a very good chance that you never will get the saw grooves out of the pieces you're trying to polish. Unlike tumbling, start with the second stage of grit, and never let it dry out while lapping.

Before changing to Win 10, I saved everything from Win 7 on a portable hard drive. If Win 10 had given me major problems it would have been easy to go back.

Like Ed, I upgraded to Win 10. I've had no major problems with it. I also stay away from Win Edge browser & use Firefox instead.
There are almost weekly updates on Win 10. As they find the bugs, they fix them. Some of the upgrades take a while to load, & you have to shut completely down & restart to install them.
