It'll be removed into slabs soon Bob. Just waiting on the weather to settle down so I can drag my saw out of the garage.

I'd be interested, but I keep stubbing my toe on a big hunk of the original Death Valley Indian paint stone beside my computer desk.

It would be hard to put a value on the entire collection without knowing how common or rare the various minerals are.
Generally speaking, thumbnail minerals sold at a rock shop start at about $5.00 and go up depending on rarity, how clean and crisp crystals are, color saturation in the more colorful minerals and a who;e host of other variables. Of course rock shops pay nowhere near what they sell for.
Even with my optivisors on I can't read many of the mineral labels, but the ones I can read are the more common minerals. There may be some rare ones mixed in, but I can't say for sure.
I'd guess that you could safely put a price of between $200.00 and $300.00 on the whole bunch and get a fairly quick sale on ebay. If you try to get more, potential buyers are going to want a list of names and detailed pics of every mineral.
That being said, when I bid on minerals, For the more common ones I never go over $5.00. Difficult to find minerals I'll go to $9.00. And the really rare ones I put a cap of $13.00 on.
Hope that helps you.

Got 'em this time, thank you! This is a thumbnail collection with some nice pieces for those that collect thumbs - Don jakesrocks I'll post a pic here if Mark would like. LOL. Didn't have any wheels to trade, & wasn't about to take the brand new wheels off of my Genie.

Hey Sheri, A couple years ago I was the one who sent the box to Australia. The contributions in the envelope fell far short of the cost of sending the box. I ended up paying well over half of the shipping. At that time it was decided to only send a small FRB overseas due to cost & restrictions. Took forever for the box to get there & a return box to arrive here. I sat on the original box for almost a month before it could be sent on its way again with the Australian material included in it. Just something to think about.

You'll need diamond bits to grind rocks. Harbor freight has sets of diamond bits really cheap. Go with the cheap ones until you get the feel of grinding on rocks.
Diamond bits should be used with water. I hope you have the flex shaft attachment for your Dremel. Don't try wet grinding with just the hand piece. Electricity & water don't mix.

I'm retired too, and find every day to be a work day, well maybe not working as hard, but weekends no longer exist except that the funnies in the Sunday paper are in color. LOL. I manage to loose the honey do list, & I only get the Sunday paper. My wife goes thru it for the coupons, and I read the comics. The rest is for wrapping garbage in.

The newre digital tachs are quicker, (Don't have to do any math), but for as little as I have to take speed readings, this old thing works great. The only drawback is that since I'm retired I don't own a watch. I have to borrow the wifes oven timer.

Thought you might like to see the Starrett tach. On these the counter can be reset to zero.

I have one of those. Got mine in the late 80's. Picked it up at a yard sale for $5.00. Mine looks different. Made by Starrett. They're a handy little tool to have around.

Sheri, why don't you see if the mods will pin this at the top, so it doesn't get buried again ?

If you're going to send something special in the box to someone further down the list, it would be a good idea to place it in a small box of its own. Securely tape the box & place at least one label on it with the name of the person it's intended for.
