Cool stuff Mike. As soon as mama retires I'm gonna try to talk her into a trip over that way. Try to match the trip with Bob being home.

Another in the don't cut crowd. That would be a beautiful shelf specimen.

As I remember, on the cabber build he started out by inviting input from others. I find know it all's boring. Since he knows it all, I say good riddance.
No matter how smart a person thinks they are, there's always something more to learn from others.

I hear everyone bad mouthing Win 10. I changed over from Win 7 to Win 10, & I like it. Took a few days to get used to it, and about 2 weeks ago I got Win 10 updates that took almost 2 hours to download & install, but they cured the few issues that I was having. It's just like any other new computer program. They all have bugs at first. People complain & Windows listens & debugs their program. There will no doubt be more bugs & updates, & the program will keep getting better.
I like Win 10 so much that a brand new computer will arrive at my door Monday with Win 10 already installed.

There are 2 working sears tumblers on ebay today.
It seems to me that for the amount of $$ you'll have to put into rebuilding your tumbler, you could probably find a good used Lortone or Thumlers for the same amount or a few dollars more. At least they still make parts for them.

Can you talk my wife into letting me build a shop like that ?
Just look at that big sand pile. Hope you don't have any stray cats in your neighborhood. LOL

If I'm not mistaking, All of those tumblers sold by Sears & Montgomery Wards were made by Lortone & painted different colors to be sold in department stores under their name. You might want to check Lortone out for spare parts.

Try checking for used equipment stands on ebay. I bought one of these complete with the wheels for less than what this seller is asking. They're very heavy duty, and the height is adjustable on the old ones. www.ebay.com/itm/322114684898?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITThese are made with threaded holes in the bottoms of the legs that the wheels screw into. Any locking wheels with 5/16" threaded mount will work. The stand legs & other parts are made of 14 gage steel, unlike the 18 gage steel being used in the new ones. A storage shelf can be added to the bottom braces very easily.

A saw that clean & purdy should be a crime against rockhound nature. Get that thing dirty & catch up with the rest of us. LOL

Where are these specimens located. (Which state).
Are the specimens labeled as to type, location where collected, when collected, and name of collector ? All of these are important to the serious mineral collector. Without this info they are just pretty rocks to sit on a shelf, and will sell for a much lower price.
There are several mineral collectors on this forum. Myself included. If he would be willing to join us, he could post pics with asking prices, and could unload much of the collection right here without having to pay paypals fees. Or as an alternative, would you be willing to post his pics and sell for him ?

Hey Mel, mine doesn't have the hinged top, but they used larger screws. A long magnetized screwdriver makes it fairly easy to remove & replace them. Even on the older saws the smaller of the two sumps was too small to easily clean out. And that needle valve is a leaking PITA.

Congrats on the new toy. Now it's time to make it look like a real 10" Covington.
