The best gearmotors are no longer available. They came off of old IBM copy machines. The folks who are building the new version of the old Highland Park sphere machines bought up all remaining stock of the motors.
Look for a gear motor that runs between 90 & 120 RPM's. The higher the inch pound rating at the output shaft, the better.
Keep an eye on ebay & the others for surplus gear motors. You might luck out & stumble on some of the old copy machine motors . If you do, buy all that you can afford. If you don't use them, there's always someone on here looking for them.
When I bought motors for my machine I saw that they were going fast. I bought 2 spares to have on hand in case one of mine died.

Ex Ohio boy here too. Spent my pre teen years in Warrensville Hights, SE of Cleveland. Don't give up on hounding Ohio. It was a big & colorful hunk of petrified wood that sparked my interest in rocks. Found it at the old fishing hole about 1/2 mile from my house when I was about 6 years old. Was that wood petrified when you were 6 years old Don or did it still have leaves? < ducking! > That was left over from helping Noah build that boat of his.

SAD NEWS FROM MINNESOTA Please join me in remembering a great icon of the entertainment community. The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71. Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch. The gravesite was piled high with flours. Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded. Born and bread in Minnesota, Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times, he still was a crusty old man and was considered a positive roll model for millions. Doughboy is survived by his wife Play Dough, three children: John Dough, Jane Dough and Dosey Dough, plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop Tart. The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.

I'm not even sure that a sphere machine or bead mill would be the answer. With either you need to use an abrasive grit. Plastics being soft, the grit will be forced into the plastic balls. You may end up with plastic spheres which are full of very abrasive grit.

Jane and Arlene are outside their nursing home, having a drink and a smoke, when it starts to rain. Jane pulls out a condom, cuts off the end, puts it over her .....cigarette, and continues smoking.
Arlene: What in the heck is that?
Jane: A condom. This way my cigarette doesn't get wet.
Arlene: Where did you get it?
Jane: You can get them at any pharmacy.
The next day, Arlene hobbles herself into the local pharmacy and announces to the pharmacist that she wants a box of condoms.
The pharmacist, obviously embarrassed, looks at her kind of strangely (she is, after all, over 80 years of age), but very delicately asks what size, texture, brand of condom she prefers.
'Doesn't matter Sonny, as long as it fits on a Camel.'
The pharmacist fainted!

My bad. It wasn't a golf game that's keeping our fearless leader in Cuba. He had to attend a baseball game with his new BFF, Raul Castro. After all, baseball in Cuba is much more important than protecting our own people from terrorist attacks, or lending assistance to our European friends. Scum Bag should step down. Even duffus Biden could do a better job of serving our country.

Coming soon to a shopping mall, airport or train station near you. And I suppose our fearless leader has a golf game scheduled in Havana.

Don't like the smell of the oil ? Go to Wally World and pick up a quart of their cheapest baby oil and add it to your saw oil. It'll have that oil smelling just like a baby after washing its butt and changing the diaper.

With a good cleaning and a little maintenance from time to time, that old saw will still have a few generations left in it, unlike the junk they build now.
