another one from that river; you all can tell me what stone it resembles; I've seen a similar jasp\ag before. This is guiter pick size with a low dome; an end cut. The background is blue and green with rusty red and tan lines and cream highlights here and there Attachments:

Thanks for looking guys; inclusive term. yes and this one just keeps surprising me with the variety of material in it. I still haven't finished with it by far. I have 4 colours of chert from it with a range from teally blue to brown and toffee tan to clear with black inclusions. I just broke small enough chuncks off all the rocks I wanted to test. you know what old backs and rocks are like. Yes Susan, when I see what gets picked up off the glacial scree, it makes me tear up :<) Damn those ice ages!

Just processing some material i found this summer where I found the orbicular jasper. This is a small sample of quite a varied group of rocks from the one river. I'll post a couple of singles thanks for looking Lloyd Attachments:

thanks, now that I know the name to look for I see what you mean. They are or seem to be named after the area or something about where they are found. Considering that this may be the only one found here, I may have to come up with a good one ;D

I found this one day this summer and I don't even remember where but local to me within 100km. It was a kind of nondiscript pebble but I thought it had something but just threw it in the bucket and only found it this weekend when I was exploring the smalls pile. Thought I'd give it a quick shot and this is what showed up. There is the residue of two islands that used to be off the coast of California piled up in our mountains here but allso a lot of upthrust from the tectonic plates colliding and so could be from that too if some ocean bed got pushed up. That's if it isn't something else. size is about 1 inch long Thanks for looking Lloyd Attachments:

I should mention that this is the same material that stratifies and gives me the stripey green material or mixed gives me the above material. The yellow runs to 6+ mohs and the black and green just slightly softer. It is a very solid and tough material with no pits or voids and shines up easily.

unfortunately rock shipping is very expensive. I think the postal service in the US is run at a loss and as soon as it hits Canada or ships in Canada, the costs are way higher; or it could be that with 25 times as many people, the costs average out differently:<). I know, I live here too.

Here`s a couple of cabs I did today of my serpentine? aka nephrite? bowenite? When the two colours mix together, the yellowy material is a weave of furry 3 dimensional colour in the green background. I'ts a real neat effect considering the green is barely translucent but the yellow is so bright it is allmost flourescent. I am the master of crappy picture so you can't see the detail of the yellow tendrils. Thanks for looking. Attachments:
