Cool. That's an older model too. That ones in good shape I probably wouldn't had done anything other than cleaning and changing out the oil in the front gear case and changing the belts(but those don't look bad). Of course I understand wanting to repaint. Other thing would be getting the carriage rods out and cleaned I usually put this in my lathe and sand them off real quick. I had hood building capabilities till my pittsburgh machine blew up. I can still make them but not to that standard. Oh and the shaft probably won't just "slide" out lol. One little speck on it will bind. I personally wouldn't disassemble the arbor assembly, you could always make a metal cover for it and cover up the old looking parts if you wanted to get that fancy with it. I won't say I haven't done that either lol.

Thanks for the comments. Supposedly the recoil isn't supposed to be too bad as it's such a heavy gun. It can't be any worse than my double barrel 10ga lol. I'm around 270lbs so I won't be getting knocked over lol but we'll see. I'm not going to scope this gun, it's basically for 100 yards I'm a fair shot if it's of fair size ill hit it at that distance. I have a Marlin 30/30 that is scoped. Only bad thing about this gun is it's looks. My Marlin is just the laminate and I don't mind dragging it thru the brush etc but the Henry is another case. I love the octagon barrels. Maybe I could make a video and put a mexican coconut geode on top a fence post and blast it lol.

Been waiting nearly 2 months for this as the Henry plant got wiped out in the hurricane but they are fast coming back. I've only had it a couple days and still haven't shot it Henry Big Boy 44magnum rifle: www.shootingtimes.com/2011/01/03/longgun_reviews_henry_111706/Cabelas had mine on hold and 2 on display. The 2 on display sold while I was completing the ATF background check. I own 2 of the Henry 22's they're very nice.

Brave kid.
There's a simple solution for this. It's called security. But no..........we can't afford that because we are too busy spending trillions killing innocents by the hundreds of thousands in foreign countries because somehow a bunch of goat herders designed and executed 9-11. Bullshit. No we have the idiots of the US wanting to hand over their weapons to a gov't that anyone with a grade school education could easily conclude that the US gov't is implicated in 9-11. This idea of spreading democracy? Please. This is all globalist, one word gov't takeover and if it isn't painfully obvious by now then please tell me what drugs you are on and where to get them.

Just fyi I had a 10" covington trim saw that was old but never used and it was the exact same color, not the darker green that they use now.

That's interesting I didn't know they stopped making the drop saw. Some of those guys i've talked to at Covington are old and don't even know what day it is sometimes let alone the paint they used to use lmao. Sorry about the delusional comment, i've been watching BigBangTheory way too much lately it's a riot.

My first guess is Covington. Someone taking the guts out of a Covington to put it in another saw is doubtful and delusional at best. Covington built hoods with open sides just like the one in the pics and i've seen old covingtons with different shades of green than they use now. The only other option if you are seeing clues like bad welds, poorly drilled holes, extra holes etc which I can't see in the pic could be that it was a Covington kit and someone built the tank and hood. I kinda doubt that's the case id say most likely original without seeing it up close. Most people wouldn't had built the hood using a sheetmetal roller but you never know I seen an engineer completely copy an ls14 drop saw, which is illegal btw, to the point it was identical.

I've already been blown up once and spent 2 months in a burn ward so no thanks. LOL. Not only that some people that have spent long periods of time around fuels, etc mysteriously end up with things like cancer. No disrespect for old-timers but one thing i've learned is just because someone is old doesn't mean they can't be stupid. LOL.

I was assuming the vise won't move along the rails with all the rust, if you can get it to free up with just light sanding and some wd40 or whatever then of course you could just test run it without the xtra step of completely tearing it apart you'll just have to play with it.

It's not a commercial unit, it's one of a kind and was built by someone with considerable mechanical skills. Very few saws that of that era used only weldments there are no castings on the machine. That doesn't really matter just wanted to bring up the point that it's not a commercial unit.
I've restored lots of saws, personally I would take out the entire vise assembly first thing you would have to do is pull out the wormfeed and then get every moving part on the vise free moving, oiled and lightly sand the 1" rods, reassemble and try it out with water before painting. No way of telling if it needs to be gravity fed or not till you see if it works. I say use water cause it's just a test run to see if it works and less clean up but drain it and wipe everything dry as soon as your done. If it doesn't have a hood just make an "L" out of a couple 2x4's and clamp one leg to the rear of the saw that will catch most of the spray and waters not gona hurt anything. If you like the way it works then you can fully disassemble it,clean and repaint it. If it's 6.5" from the centerline of the shaft to the bottom of the tank it's a 12" saw. Just random thoughts, it looks well built and def worth your time to work on. Also looks like it has a bolt in front of each pillowblock which is a cool alignment feature. Whoever built that had a fairly good idea what they were doing and I wouldn't be surprised if it works better than you think it's going to. Pretty cool find.

Depends, both the Genie and the HP are kinda large would you have to move it often? For the cost of a new cabmate you coud fix up the Genie and get a used trim saw and have 10x the equipment of an all-in-one unit that will drive you nuts having to change out crap all the time. Also more convenient water setup on the genie. Why would you put 6" wheels on the HP? Cost reasons? Sell the HP and use that $ to fix up the genie. And curiously what is missing on the Genie? If it's just shrouds you may be able to build them for little or nothing.

I use primebearing off ebay and have bought a large qty of them with no problems. They aren't an expense like they used to be but on occasion I still might opt for a more expensive fafnir made in US bearing, for one I like the set collars that lock into place on the shaft onto the bearing vs. the imports that just use set screws. I can say get a small tube of locktite as the set screws do have a tendency to come loose.

Despite getting something other people might want, nothing worse than getting a pile of **** that you didn't want in the first place. Luckily it wasn't a huge expense but still a disappointment and a waste of time and effort. I won't say it hasn't happened to me before.
