Russ that's awesome news I think. Having spent time with you at McDermitt I think your a stand up guy - not sure what you feel the need to apologize for but if anyone needs a character reference send them my way. May I inquire as to what part of NV you are moving to? If it's the northern half (good half) I think we should do some rockhounding as soon as possible after you get settled in. I can show you some decent spots and I'm betting you know a few too. Thanks for the vote of confidence Tommy. We'll be in the northern half of Nevada-which still isn't that far from the warm part come winter. Doing some rockhounding sounds great-hopefully by late summer we'll be freed up enough to do some stuff. We haven't poked around there a lot, enough to know there is some interesting stuff around. I'm feeling you Russ. I am past ready for a move like that, maybe not a change of address but definitely a lower stress way to make the house payments. Hope this means I get to meet you in Q or maybe a hounding trip. Thanks. Stress level should go down a little-a few months from now. Looking forward to meeting you sometime. Russ

Haven't been posting much in the past eight or nine months. Couple of reasons for that. First off, I was dealing with some drug interaction issues and couldn't trust myself to not spout off a bunch of garbage. Once we figured out what was happening, my doctors changed some stuff around and it has made a huge difference. All those things affect people differently. I wish I had realized it sooner, but there are a few people on here I owe apologies to. These days I just act like a sort of normal jerk, instead of a &*(#$@@! jerk.
Other thing-The last couple of years we've been dealing with health issues (mostly mine), work issues and whatnot. Got talking about downsizing, then my better 9/10ths decided to make a career change. Sooo, we're moving to Nevada. Smaller property, no more four hours a week mowing the lawn. Actually, we're planning on no lawn. Rocks and Roundup. Spend the time in the hills messing around. We closed on a house down there last month, right now I'm running back and forth getting that place ready to move in, and this one ready to sell. New adventure, new country to explore. The next few months will be a little crazy but I really think in the long run we'll be coming out ahead. Heck, it'll be closer to Quartzsite, and maybe we can make it to some of those SoCal shows you all are always talking about. Life is full of changes, we just roll with them as best we can.
Well, if you got through all that, have a great day.

Boxes. Buckets. Stacked on shelves. Piles on the floor to trip over.

Nothing exotic there, but some of them should take a decent polish. After you do this for a while you'll get a feel for what to throw in the tumbler. I've never run a tumbler that small, but like others have said the coarse step takes as long as it takes. I have some running in 46/70 that has been going for months. Rollingstones recipe looks pretty good. Run the coarse until the rocks are as round and smooth as you want them.

Sorry, can't help. Drank a truckload of beer in the Ogunquit to Old Orchard area 40 years ago, but back then I wasn't hunting for rocks.

Hammer hangers at the hardware store, go on your belt. I made my own out of leather that lays flat. Spent too much time on ladders and such and don't appreciate toolholders that stick out and catch on things.

Great pictures, James. The colors in the desert always amaze me-especially in the spring after a wet winter. Thanks for sharing.

Great pictures, I was thinking that looked like the Lake Mead area. We've been to Red Rocks and Valley of Fire-both too crowded for me. Looks like the pup is doing well.

From time to time a thread will pop up with ideas for displaying rocks and stuff. Keep thinking I should take a few pictures but never get it done. Well, I was getting ready to take some stuff down to get it packed and thought to take a couple of pictures. I guess this is the "wood wall". The lower shelf is all just small pieces we've found around here. Please excuse the dust, it's been a long winter and these shelves are about four feet from the wood stove. Spring cleaning time! Our local wood is nothing spectacular, mostly shades of brown, grey, black. We think it's cool, though. The larger piece on the left was with my Father in laws stuff and we don't have any idea where it is from. We expect he bought it in Quarztsite sometime in the '90's. The limb cast to the right of it is from Oregon somewhere, Cyndi got it for her Dad for Christmas or something. The rest is just Bighorn Basin pet wood. Hadn't noticed until looking at the photos but the pictures aren't straight, either. Oh well, it's all down and packed now. Thanks for looking. Russ

That is some beautiful material and a great job on all of them. I find your polishing interesting for a couple of reasons. Looking forward to more.
