Nice chunk you've got there fossilman. It's quite common over our way. Sometimes get some pretty good colors in them. These are Eocene, from what is probably a beach deposit. Russ

Yep, dump it on the compost piles. Rinse water with Borax gets dumped in places where I don't want stuff to grow.

well, hey there Jim. They were mining that stuff a lot closer than Lusk. Like, East of Yellowtail and in the South end of the Pryors. Can't see your pics because PBucket is jacked up again.

Been rolling some ideas through my head for a while, but I fear it'll be some time before I can get to it. But, who knows, I may blow off some other stuff.

Yes I did. Copper foil method. Really not that hard, and it's really kind of fun. I've soldered a few miles of copper for water and air lines, this is kind of the same but a little different. Russ Russ, can you explain the copper foil method? Probably not coherently. Basically one wraps each piece of stone or glass with copper foil tape. Apply flux and then solder. Takes a decent soldering iron. That's it in a nutshell. Russ

Russ Nice job. Similar method, very more gorgeous result. My x-BIL does similar with glass. Seems obvious to do same with Montana's..... Glad you did it. Maybe make one myself. Always good to fool around by candlelight. Better candle might enhance..... Well, sometimes a candle will enhance ambiance. Sometimes enhanced ambiance.....yeah. That. Russ

Hopefully Photobucket is working now. I have a nice one of those I found at Fisherman's Island by Charlevoix. Still in matrix. Should I leave it in there? Last pic is the back side. It's about two inches across. Stuff like this,I use a Dremel tool and face the area, where the fossil is contained and work the area, removing some of the matrix from the fossil-with just enough area left to display them both..... Throw on a bit of clear polyurethane and your good to go for display.... Michael-a question for you. Have you ever used one of those little engraving things to prep fossils? I've only done a little playing around, for some things it seems to work okay, especially the ones with a variable speed control. Russ
