Well, much to everyone's relief we won't be making it this year. Been a busy year or so, hopefully we'll have things settled down a little by summer. Just bad timing right now.

Thanks all. Back from my self-imposed exile from the interwebs. Going easy, see if I can sort of behave. Jean has it right about the charcoal ovens. They are scattered around the West, the ones I showed are at Bristol Wells, NV. There are some more up the road at Ward. Note the difference in workmanship. These were built of locally quarried tuff. Pretty impressive. Have a great day. Russ

Well, it's been a busy year. Quartzsite in Jan., albeit the week after the Pow Wow and picnic. Did get to visit with Tony and spent a day looking for rocks with drocknut, also saw some old friends from Colorado who were wintering there. Made the super bloom in Death Valley, got to Pyramid Lake and Lake Lahonton. Did a drive by at Craters of the Moon along the way. Made it to McDermitt in May for the big group thing. So, some stuff since then. yup, that is the old Lincoln Highway. Hard to imagine that this was the main transcontinental route at one time. Probably lots of fun in a Model T. I know that some folks here have read John McPhee's "Basin and Range". Fairly early on he talks about the "goober" in the rockcut. There's the "goober" right there. Happened to be passing through Wendover during speed week. Don't know why, but I didn't take any pictures. There was some really interesting machinery on trailers in every parking lot in town. Some rocks we picked up wandering around here. Some rocks we picked up around here. Just gotta have a critter. Enough for now, need to get some more pics uploaded. Thanks for looking, and have a wonderful day. Russ

Good Luck to your friend. One never knows. Jan. 2015 my doctor told me I wouldn't see spring. I'm still here. My poor wife just can't catch a break. Sending good thoughts.

These guys I saw in Albany, NY in this same time frame, May have been the same tour. Within a year or two, anyhow. A lot of , uh, stuff has happened since the late 70's.
Oh yeah, saw them again in Denver (may have actually been Golden) about '96'ish? Something like that. While Hughie was still alive, and I was living in "the cave" up at Table Mesa. A lot of , uh, stuff has happened since the late 90's.
Had all of this on 8 track back in the day. Russ

In that area, calcite would be most likely. Would be interesting to know, however, where in the Indian Lake area it was found? There is some interesting geology around there. Haven't been there in almost 30 years, and with any luck will never be there again, the last time there we were bear hunting on Floodwood Mountain.

Good job on those. Wandering around in the grasslands out there you'll find some pretty decent stuff. I lived South of Fort Morgan for awhile on the edge of the sand hills-no rocks there. Do need to watch out though-a couple of sites in the books are actually deeded land. At worst, someone may ask you to leave. Nice shine on those, keep after it.

Always keep an eye out for artifacts out in that area as well.

Looks like an interesting assortment. Looking forward to seeing them finished. May have to go see the sort-of-cousin-in-law who lives down there.
Nah, probably not. Still want to see what you do with them, though.

Great pics, Dianne. Well, there is that one of "Fat Old Fart Digging Holes", but the rest were really cool. I've got to agree with Tommy-it was fun hanging with everyone there-great bunch of folks. Cool to see that "little" chunk of sagenite cut. Anyone who gets a chance to go on one of these trips really needs to do it, I'd leave in the morning to do it over again. Russ

Okay, finally have a few pictures to add. I took a few flower pictures but Eva's are so awesome that I'll spare you mine. Had a great time, saw some folks I knew from before and met some that were new to me. On my way, heading South from Cody. Guess I missed rush minute. Wind River Canyon West of Dubois Nearing Togwotee Pass--around 9000 ft. East of Jackson. Crappy picture, but I think you'll get the idea. Enough highway pics, how about a couple of rocks. Herd of vehicles at the Gary Green site. Filled my bags, so started on the little cooler. Can't really get lost-just follow the dust cloud. And yeah, the windshield is dirty.Washed it the next morning when I gassed up. Driving back out to the highway Saturday afternoon. Well, we've got rocks, flowers, people, snakes, pretty views, so I'll leave you with a meadow muffin. I don't recommend putting these in your tumbler. Doubt they'd polish well. Thanks for looking.
