Rob, did the shaft wear through the plastic "bushing"? My 45C did that and while rubbing wore a long ways into the shaft but didn't appreciably damage the frame. New shaft and bushing and it's been fine since then. Well, I did replace the motor on it a year or so ago but I got the thing used and have no idea how many loads it had run before that. I'd take a closer look at the shaft, if it's okay get a new set of bushings, they're "pretty cheap" and if you have to, line everything up and epoxy the new bushing in place. Doubt the epoxy would be necessary, though. The few of these things I've been around it seems as though they all like the motor all the way out even with a new belt.

They use pine pitch to hand grind telescope mirrors for reflecting telescopes. It is a low temp grind using low pressure. I see what you are saying about the dop wax. It is about as sticky as it gets. You can still sell long leaf pine stumps for resin here in the south. Found one more use, Bush band. Oh hell, now I just have to build one of those! Too cool! Russ

We went over there 9 0r 10 years ago. Fascinating place, great report. If I am remembering correctly, the Tomb of the Unknowns is made of that material as well.

Great pictures. We've had some great colors down here this year and it looks like you have, too. Thanks for posting those.

Just saw this thread. I did see the finished product last week and as nice as the pictures are, they look even better in person. Great polish on the stones and nice finish on the wood.

Yep, good show, lot's of interesting stuff ro look at. Great to meet up with Andy and hopefully we can get out rockhunting soon. Did get a couple of small Bear Canyon agates from Larry to look at until I can get up there and try to find a few of my own, and Cyndi scored a decent Dryhead in the silent auction.

The Billings Rock and Mineral Show is this weekend, 09/27-09/28. I forget the times, I expect it's 9AM to 5PM or something like that. We'll probably try go get up there Saturday, if anyone on here is going, drop me a line..

I really like that. Always enjoy seeing those big cabs you do, and that's about a perfect job of centering.

Yeah, the coarse is the slow part that drives me crazy. I have two tumblers running 24/7 with nothing but coarse. Take a few out at cleanout when they're ready and add a few more. Just did the big tumbler today-sort of disappointing how few I pulled to move on, but some of ones I put back are really close so maybe next time? Perseverance.

That all looks real good. Haven't tried that yet and I have a pile of peppers and garlic. Maybe this week is the time to try it (if I can get in from the shop before 9PM for a change).

Missed a few days, finally got caught up again. James, the time you are spending on this and the attention to detail are amazing. Something to learn with nearly every post. Now I want to go back to Nevada and get a bunch of obsidian again. I've only run a few batches of obsidian, I'm no expert. The photographic journey is incredible. Thanks for taking us along. Russ Cheaper to buy a FRB from catmandewe! Yeah, and would make more sense. More fun to go pick it up off the ground, though! Back to our regularly scheduled program. Russ

That is some cool stuff. I really like seeing other folks local rocks. And, yeah, I laughed at your sequence of events. May as well get out while you can, we've already had our first snow. Looking forward to those pics, though.
