What is the difference between chert and flint. Interchangeable? Rather than summarizing it here, I will let you research it or let someone else post. In the USA, most material generally called flint isn't flint if proper classification is used. However, if the material comprises an artifact or is part of a rock unit that has historically been used in manufacturing weapons or tools, the name "flint" is often used. The Vanport Flint of eastern Ohio and the Alibates Flint of northern Texas are both names used for laterally extensive rock units. Native Americans mined, traded, and knapped these materials to manufacture tools for thousands of years. So while doing my homework you have me it can be used interchangeably depending on ones experience. Pretty much the same material. Tomato tomahto.

Do you have a pic of the final result. Just picked up a 4 lb piece of Alibates flint. Is this the same as the chert? Where does one get tumbling Alibates? Although it's often called flint it's chert. The differences are technical. What is the difference between chert and flint. Interchangeable?

I'm not home so I am out of the question. I have some of each. That is if my son hasn't rearranged everything.

Another super pendant, waiting for you to run out of Ideas but not like that is going to happen anytime soon. Thank you for sharing.
I am betting that stone is man made. Still a stunner.

I have a person looking to buy some nice mixed tumbles for the little people. Don’t have to be perfect but shiney. Mixed size from 1/4 in to 1 inch or so. Could take up to 20 lbs. pm me.

Robin grabbed a couple of small pieces of sterling scrap to test.
24 ga cut relatively easily.
20 ga cut with no problem - just had to hit it faster with steady pressure.
Should work for what she wanted. I even put new rubber feet on it (modified rubber chair leg tips) and still in for under $40.
I like it when things work out like you thought.

Just when you think you have it all figured out ....this peitersite undercut badly. Never happened to me before with this material?? Went back to 400 and finished it with diamond. Not as spectacular a finish as with tin but no undercutting🙂🙂 That one spooky lady in that cool pendant, I think she is hearing Rod Sterling saying she will be in there a very long time. I love this pendant and can hardly wait to see you next one. On the shot plates I just ball up some silver (Fine silver if I want the adornment to shine brighter than the sterling) I don't hit it direct with a hammer, I use a flat punch on the ball and hit that with the hammer. Keeps them from going airborn and it directs the force of the blow straight where you want it.

To cut thinner silver the tolerance has to be close otherwise it will not make a smooth cut . Not sure of the term but the silver will fold instead of cut. The one I tried would only cut up to 24 ga.

I offered a guy a few years ago 2000 dollars for one about 6 estimated tons and he turned me down. It was an exceptional one.

I worked in the gravel pits in lower michigan for 17 yrs. I have a pudding stone that weighs 9.8 ton. Does anyone know the best place to advertise such an item? I'm afraid the size will scare off most ppl but there's got to be someone out there that's in the market for such an exotic Rock. captbob

The first thing I ever made was a turtle ring. When I get home I will take a pic if I remember. These came out really nice.
