A few more tumbles that came out flat enough to practice on, hopefully in a month i'll have some shaped pieces to play with. I still hate bails.
The teepee might get re-wrapped someday it's a pretty stone

Some of these have pretty distinct banding, but they're too opaque for what i'd usually call agate. Northern Black Hills. Anyone have an ID?
This one might be agate it's more translucent, tempted to dome it and save the scaly crust:

Loving those agate cabs. Brilliant shine.

That's awesome. Something almost mechanical about the wire work that contrasts really well with the stone. The symmetry maybe ... whatever it works.

Copper is cheap and easy to work with, but even silver isn't extravagantly expensive. I've only wrapped about a dozen pieces and haven't done any since the weather got nice here, but i use copper in 22, 24, 26 and 28 gauge. I bought a set of pliers on Amazon for under $20 with round, flat, chain, cut, and flat bent nose pliers then bought a nylon tipped pliers for straightening wire and to help avoid marring the soft wire when crimping. About a $25 total investment on tools and it's enough to tackle everything i've tried so far. Bails drive me crazy, but i'm expecting an inspired breakthrough soon and then i'll be a wrapping fool.
You'll see a variety of styles and some real masterful work on this forum, plus there are some good tutorials for different types of wraps. Tons of tutorials on youtube also if you run out of ideas. If you have specific questions someone here will surely give you good answers. Oh, and as someone else who wraps mostly odd shaped tumbles, it may be easier to wrap cabbed stones. I've just started rolling my first few cabs and can't wait to try wrapping something halfway flat and symmetrical. Hopefully a couple of them survive through polish ...

Very nice material, do you find a lot of agates or just a few when you head to teepee canyon ? Usually not too many. These were all from one afternoon, probably an hour and a half of hunting, and I felt like it was a pretty successful day for me. So yeah, I usually don't find a lot. But I always find something.

If you get another chance definitely check it out, the agate quarry is only a couple miles in on a dirt road from the highway. Wind Cave is almost midway between Teepee Canyon and Fairburn and you're likely to find something pretty about anywhere in a 50 mile radius from there

Yeah, some awesome wraps. I love how you keep the wire, even the fancy stuff, from obscuring the stone.

Late but what a splendid batch. The mossy with fortification is a neat twist.

Was it the blue bear screen from Proboards? Sorry for the delayed response, i'm not showing notifications for this thread. I didn't see any blue bears, just text on a blank page. I haven't seen any errors since. Now i kind of want to see a blue bear.

Really nice tims ! Self collected? Thanks. Yeah, i love going to Teepee Canyon. Have never spent much time in the actual quarry part, i just wander around the outskirts and pick up naturally exposed pieces. Most of them aren't good for much except specimen pieces but they're pretty and you always seem to find something. I was tickled by the one with googly eyes, one side has banding then crystal then banding again then more crystal. Plus it has googly eyes.

Um, you can't just tease with the gorgeous front and not show the mysterious back. Unless it's done with magic then you get a pass. The concentric curves over the face of the stone are really nice.

You need to do 3D holograms so we can figure out how to make your lovely bails.
Just curious, is the Hell's Canyon material from South Dakota Black Hills?

Could the 2nd piece be clinker?
Wyoming stuff I think is clinker, comes in a variety of colors:

Cool pieces Fossilman. Really like the one in the 3rd pic with the dark lines between the lighter chambers. I see some nice artifacts there too.
I'll have to find some pieces to cut that aren't muddy but don't have good nacre (which I assume would just break off if you cut through it).
