Night shots.
Freezing rain, then snow, then sleet (a lot of sleet), then freezing rain, then snow. Pretty crunchy.

Each morning when I get up early, the little hound follows me into the den and curls up by the window to get a couple more hours of beauty rest. Looks pretty cozy! These two would make a good pair...

Looking back through my old threads and can't believe this was over three years ago. From the looks of it, I posted 2,500 times in just over a year and a half. Now, all that time and just around 1,000 posts later, I wonder what happened? Where the hell has time gone?

Hi there,
You guys are too kind! I have not been signed up here for long, but I have learned a ton from reading all these posts. I love the sharing of knowledge on here. I also am starting to share some of the things I do related to rocks on the youtubes.
jasoninsd - I didn't know that my vice was a #10 leather vice. cool. And I live on the west coast of Canada, those aren't cigs lol.
I am working on making a lapidary saw right now. maybe I should post my progress on another thread???
Thank you for watching
Stay tuned for more...
Shane
I was talking about you holding your obsidian with your boots when you were drilling out the center...the kind of thing I do all the time! LOL And yes...I knew they weren't really "cigs". It'd be pretty cool to see the progress updates in another thread. I'm a sucker for seeing what others are able to come up with! It's so hard to get intent across on the keyboard, especially to a stranger. Even with emojis.

Thanks for sharing the video, Shane, it was f un to see how it all came together. That's a beautiful piece of art and a hell of an ashtray. I like the shape, the angles and convergence of planes, the sheen of the obsidian...I think I could stare at that for quite a while, especially while enjoying a west coast Canadian cigarette after a hard day's work. Well done.

Dealing with this right now. A little more ice tonight, on top of this we've had hanging around for three days. Then, the foot of snow tomorrow. Some of my trees just aren't going to survive. I know there are plenty of people out there feeling it. Stay safe in this severe weather.

Sorry, I meant to title that last post, "I'd love to hear new music I like; I'm open to suggestions". I knew what you meant. Ya gotta listen to it before you know if you like it or not. My own dereliction of duty. There is material here, I just need to pick it. Cancelling your cable led you to search out your own entertainment, instead of it being fed to you. I am facing a microcosm similar to that. We are about to be dumped on and will likely lose power for a few days. No Wifi, no streaming services...back to the dark ages. While sitting in the car, charging my phone, I will be looking through the previous 400 pages for the gem(s) I will claim for my own.

You have exceptional tastes, Randy. Van Morrison also one of my faves! It's real easy to like that post, Jean. Good music, and a compliment to boot. The reality is, though, I like my taste too. I thoroughly enjoy every video I post. Hahaha! My history, so far, has been to post well loved songs and you'll get some agreement that they are classics for a reason. Others do the same; there are a lot of the most memorable songs ever on these pages. I can scroll through and pull up a gazillion songs I know, love, and sing by heart, so it is, in essence, a virtual greatest hits album I could listen to for hours. I wonder, though, if most of the songs on here aren't so recognizable that the tendency is to listen to 30 seconds to a minute, know the song within your DNA and get to the comment or the like. Nothing wrong with that, and I am guilty of that for sure. We all have sh*t to do, after all. What I haven't done to any significant degree is listen to the stuff I don't know already and give it a real listen. That bugs me, and I want to be better at that. Hopefully, I am in the minority and most everyone else gives the unknown/unfamiliar/unlikely selection a chance before giving it a pass for the obvious option in the next post. I'll be doing some surfing on the 400+ pages of music to find offerings others have made, with new and/or unknown artists taking precedence. I'll also be adding posts with current artists, some local, I've been hearing lately. I'll go ahead and encourage others to do the same.

I've been spending a lot of time online recently, since turning off cable last month. Researching thinks, learning things. I've also been listening to music on YT. Ran across this gem yesterday. I love both of these guys' music! Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton - Dear Mr. Fantasy (HQ)(Crossroads Guitar Festival 2010) Jean, I wish I could 'like' that offering more than once. I love both these guys, too. They were in Blind Faith together after Winwood did this song with Traffic, so I bet they've played it a time or two. They looked a little different back then. Blind Faith, around '69 or '70:

Nice specimen, Chuck. I sometimes stare at these things in amazement, with the complexity and endless pattern possibilities. They are truly works of art. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice! Great job on the wrap and that colla wood is beautiful material. I still don't know how all you wire wizards and witches get that stuff to do what you want. I've tried, but no magic... The 4 P's: Patience, Practice, Persistance, Pliers! Now, that seems like a sensible plan. And I tried, but my equation ended up including way too many "F"s and not enough "P"s.

Exciting stuff! I'll try to get a peek, for sure. Crazy that Mars now has multiple craft orbiting.
