Tommy - Nice work & I always like hearing the story behind it. Stones that small are when I use a dop stick. It gives me way more control over the shaping process. To misquote a line from Rocky - Man: "Have you thought of investing in dop sticks?" Rocky: "I never use 'em" Lynn

I would love some! BTW, I was born in Redwood City (a long time ago) I could trade for some Cedar City agate, Indian Blanket jasper & Holt Canyon Agate. Lynn

I just bought this bench vise from Harbor Freight for my wife's new (to her) jeweler's bench. It's $20, but use a 20% off coupon & it's $16. You can't beat that. There are 2 clamping heads. One has smooth jaws & one has a knurled pattern with a couple of pre-cut holes to clamp different diameters. I'm not sure how useful those holes will be for me.
You can rotate the head section to any angle you want. Once bolted or clamped to your bench, you can rotate the main vise body 360 degrees.
Many things from Harbor freight are of questionable quality, but this one is good. Edit: Here's the direct link to the vise: www.harborfreight.com/2-1-2-half-inch-table-swivel-vise-97160.htmlLynn

Thanks for the ID. This is something I had never heard of before. I love it. I don't think they were calling it Doberman agate. It LOOKS like a Doberman head! Lynn

manofglass I love your cabber. Thanks for posting your build progress. The cloth in front of the wheels not only keeps you from getting soaked, it spreads the water on the full width of the wheel, that is, if you've made it touch the wheel. Yes, it will wear out, so you just replace them every year or so. Lynn

Don Bummer! And it wasn't just any cab. It was a primo Labradorite. I'm sure you've got a good backup stash, but sad anyway. Lynn

looks like a type of wasp. I've heard them called beneficial wasps. I've seen similar ones that are black. Lynn

Finally, at the age of 62 I bought a guitar to punish my Mom I didn't like school, and you know I'm nobody's fool.
Seriously, I just bought an acoustic (Jasmine brand) and an electric guitar (Oscar Schmidt Les Paul copy). An amp is in the mail. I also bought a preamp to add to the acoustic to electrify it. Haven't installed it yet as it requires cutting out a section of the guitar.
I hope to learn to mimic my favorite players such as Andy Latimer from Camel Steve Hackett formerly of Genesis Carlos Santana David Gilmour of Pink Floyd Alex Lifeson of Rush and many more.
We'll see if I actually put effort into learning.
I'll report back as I progress or send a link to my recordings on iTunes & links to tickets to my concerts! Lynn

I made mine 1 5/8" wide - 17 blades. I got the blades for $3 each, so I went all out! I found a tool liquidator on eBay, and bought over 100 for club members.
They're Turbo type blades. I have no experience with continuous-rim type. I don't have spacers between the blades. They are bolted together (mine conveniently had a pattern of holes). I had a machinist friend bore out the blades to 1" to match my arbor shaft. I forget what size hole tile saw blades have, but there's a knockout to give a larger size too, just not sure what those 2 sizes are.
Good luck. Show us the finished supergrinder when you finish. Lynn

I use the 220 soft and I will never go back. It has improved my speed and cabbing. Plus a lot of softer material goes right to it. rockjunquie Do you use the 220 soft wheel instead of a 280 soft wheel? Tell us your grit sequence, please. Lynn
