Michael, Nice work. I'd like to see the back because I can't figure how the cab is held in securely. Lynn

I acquired a partial "nut" that was already cut open that looked very similar to yours. Smooth exterior. The inside has concentric flashes of green, blue & purple. You should seek someone who's experienced at cutting. You don't want to waste good material on an amateur. Lynn

Thanks, Lynn, that was fun out there! No intention to rockhound but did get some unusual Agate in a wash, totally by accident. Might have to make that yearly trip. I'll check out Harbor Freight, I might go to ST George tomorrow, one of my three yearly trips.LOL I thought you were in St. George - Utah's Dixie. Lynn

lorenzoIf you're using cheap tile blades, they usually have a knockout. I think the standard hole is 5/8" & 7/8" with the knockout knocked out. I could be wrong. It's been a while since I made mine. I had a machinist friend bore mine to 1" to fit the shaft on my machine. Another friend bored his own out on a drill press. Somehow he made a jig to center them. Harbor Freight has a stepped drill bit that may do the trick. www.harborfreight.com/2-piece-titanium-nitride-coated-high-speed-steel-step-drills-96275.htmlLynn

Win, It was nice meeting you at the Moab show. I love that town and that show. It's consistently my best saleswise. I always buy great Dino Bone from the locals. I got to rockhound on Monday on the way home. I hounded grape agate just east of the San Rafael Swell. Foredom is pricey, but Harbor Freight has a Chinese clone for about $50-60. I can't find it on their site now. Maybe they don't anymore. Here's a mini bench grinder with flex shaft for $38! Add the 20% off coupon & it's $30. www.harborfreight.com/bench-grinder-with-flex-shaft-43533.htmlLynn

Tommy - awesome shine on that cab. I didn't expect it for Petosky. BTW, I did not click on that video. I hated Disco when it was current. Lynn

Is there a particular beach that is better than others? I just did a quick Google search and it looks like there are several beaches in the area (Pigeon Point, Bean Hollow, Pebble). Looks like there are some signs that warn against removing pebbles. There's a rocky stretch of beach just south of Pescadero State Beach. Park at the third lot (which is by some really scenic cliffs) and slowly work your way down the path. There are some basic stairs carved into the cliffside and lots of invasive ice plant you can grab to keep your balance. www.sfgms.org/pescadero0209.htmlThere's another great beach just 1/4 mile south. Park before you get to the A-frame house. Find a well-worn path down to the cliff. It's a little sketchy to get down, but not too bad. Depending on the tides, there are lots of agates here. Lynn

Man theses fires in Napa & Sonoma are really the pits. The photos of entire neighborhoods burned down are depressing. I'm hoping people can get back on their feet without too much of a disruption to their lives. Even here in Southern Utah, the air to the west of us is very ugly. I didn't expect it to reach that far. There's also a purple agate in Buffington Pocket near Valley of Fire, which is just east of Vegas/Henderson. A guy gave me a couple of chunks at a show I did in Vegas. The exterior is a soft white crust, like in your pictures. Our club went once looking for it, but didn't have good directions & found nothing. Lynn

Welcome to the forum from southern Utah. I used to collect beach agates at San Gregorio & Pescadero beaches when I lived in Cupertino. Sometimes I'd take Hwy 84 & stop in La Honda at the little grocery store. Nice town you've got there! Lynn

I've been scooping up all of the plume and trent agate slabs for sure. I usually spend about a hundred bucks a visit, which nets me about a 5-gallon bucket of various stuff. Where are you finding these slabs for sale? Lynn
