I recently found some odd tube agate at Burro Creek, is it a fossil or just cool tube agate? I am not aware of any fossils ever found in the area, reminds me of the Indonesian Palm root agate.

Thank you. Here is the sphere on display at the Vista Grande Mining Co booth in Tucson. Not sure if they sold it or not. Attachments:

Quartzite is wrapping down, go to Tucson and hit Kino ball park, some good deals this year. The Pueblo show is out of control, all prices are in Grams or karats.
But, do visit Tony on way out. :-)

Thanks for the compliments, it was a difficult sphere to make with the different hardness's. Your friend named Rodney? I made for Rodney to display at Tucson this Feb. I think it actually maybe Dessert Bloom Variscite, I will have to ask him. LOL

Interesting.... I am glad to hear your cutting again.
Did the arbor shaft fit snug in the bearing? I am wondering if tolerance of the ID of the bearing is so bad that when you tighten the set screws the arbor was no longer seated proper in the bearing throwing it out of balance.

That is a very odd sound for a bearing... how is the alignment between the pulley sheaves. Other thing to look at is if the pulley sheave by the arbor is hitting the side of the saw, or if the shaft is rubbing where it goes thru the side. I agree, does not sound like a typical bearing failure. The frequency and sound of the noise is wrong.

That is one Boogered bearing. Send back for replacement. Did you get a warranty with that saw?

You always want to put at least one pump of grease in them, don't over fill them so the grease shoots out the seal.
The noise sounds odd, can you narrow it down to the actual bearing? Place a extra large flat head screw driver so that the end is touching the bearing and place your ear on top of screw driver, turn abor to make the noise, if noise is from bearing you will hear it. Does it make it the noise when the blade is removed? What about removing the drive belt?
If they are Chinese bearings they are hit or miss, Japanese are better, if you got extra $$$ by made in the USA.

Amazing Tim. Some of the images.dont work. It's an issue with Picasa/Google I can't seem to solve. Did you do anything different with some than others. As a matter fact I am doing something different with one of the pieces, I am cubing up one of the tube agate pieces to make a sphere.

As of last Thursday the Burro Creek crossing road was as good as ive seen it in 5 or 6 yrs . If I can help anyone with collecting there let me know We went in from Nothing, a small stretch did require 4x4 to get over some boulders, but once you hit the main rd i was in great shape. We noticed there was an active bentonite mine activity, they must be maintaining the roads.

I have not been there in several years, in the past very easily accessible by a high clearance two wheel drive, just one well traveled wash you need to cross. Bring some big hammers and pry bars, not much float when I was last there. About quarter mile from the site look up on the hills, left side of road, you will see a small natural bridge on the hill side. Perfect weather for the going up there.
