fossilman we went to Gem Mountain, not in town but out where we panned several buckets of gravel. Stayed for the day. I could have spent a week doing that. My son too and he was 13!

Nice design and lovely ring! Looks like you did a great job finishing those prongs, too. The curved wires on either side of the settings are a graceful touch, and they look like they angle down toward the shank to avoid snagging. Thanks Gary! You have a keen eye, those do angle down for that reason. I may fiddle with the design a bit more if I do it again, there’s a bit much unsupported metal near the center of the ring.

here’s most of what I found that day, and my son’s large one.

That is amazing, can’t imagine finding such a thing laying in the pan in the rough. It’s a fun place to go, lots of small sapphires to be found, but I only found 4 or 5 large enough to facet. My son found a 3.3ct stone, but didn’t want to have it cut. We had a blast there and it was definitely worth a visit!

This summer my son and I were in Philipsburg MT for the day and panned some nice sapphires, several of which I left to have faceted. I made this ring for my girlfriend, finished it up yesterday, using the largest one I got back from them. Super pleased with the result 😊

I really like the crystal points as well! Very nice. Are they epoxied to stay in place? I did something similar with bear claws a while back and epoxy was my friend, though I racked my brain trying to figure out another way. Really nice work.

I think those are really cool! Outside of the box in what I normally see for tap handles.
