On The E-10 cab unit their is a brass rod under the vise to keep it Sq. to the vise. The gravity feed on mine. i never use it. In 1955 it had a weight over the back right corner. As for climbing the blade, Cutting to fast to much wt. in gallon jug for counter wt.
If you use the gravity feed place rock in vise. add water tell rock moves slowly through the full pass of vise rod run. Then set rock for cut. Most slab saws cut at 7 - 9 minutes to the inch.
Old and power feed. You mean screw feed? Or BBQ motor drive, Are not old HP's.
Jack
What i read in your post is your using a Trim saw.

Forgot the strike plate test. Gold is a gold strike on very fine sand paper ( Black 900 grit ) is best. or edge of white broken clay mug. Fools gold having to much silica will show white strike.

Graet advise about how to block a round to cut center. with plaster or any mud that well hold up to a vise pressing on it. should run saw low feed speed.
As you pour the mud in casting box at point of center of cut, Drop wood tooth picks, to the edge of form. so you can line blade cut up. I use Wax paper milk cartons or any Sq. box coated in cooking oil.
This is the only way to cut center on any type of fossil.

Lapidaryrough / Jack Cole This "FIX-ALL", is it heat resistant, like in the range of barbecue fire boxs or maybe aluminum melting furnaces? Thanks, roger No Fix-All is for wall, floors. As for sanding forget it. Fire place brick mortar. high silica is best in good sand mortars.

Some people confuse FIX-ALL with plaster of Paris. my favorite is CASTING plaster, used to fire seal metal doors to brick casing. If the plaster needs help. Use Muriatic Acid 3-1 mix.

That damn painter in my head, just use oil enamel. or her finger nail paint.
As for the radius cut outs on colliers / flanges.
That space, to put more pressure out on the radius. of the blade. prevents dishing.
On cross feed, I've lathe off the edge of colliers. hanging rock below vise deck.
Lathe cut flanges only. slab saws shop tool all.
grinding wheels maybe pressed (thick.)

From the list of childhood do ( NOT ) repeat.
Do not put fire line ( Fast ) fuse, through a cup down the center of a 1" x 3 ft. shd. 40 white pipe Do not pack PINE PITCH around fuse to end of pipe. Do not lay pipe on angle iron at 40 degree lance path across river to rock bar. Three inches of pipe burned before pipe was gone in a cloud of black smoke. solid fuel was very dry Pine pitch, The pitch burn faster then the fuse and pipe. Sparklers, fuel not as good as pitch.

40/70 & break out the cement mixer, time to rough up silicates. Gavel for the medium.
I have a octagon 11" x 24" rotary 17 RPM. i use 60/90 for 3 - 4 week runs. and add more 60/90 - I run thicker muddier slurry then most do. If I hear rock dinging around on each other add more water. As the load runs into weeks i sort out and add more rock grit. when i have a bucket full. Then the grit change to 80 grit for weeks. sort as needed.
80 grit after 3-4 weeks running well break down to 400 - 600 grit or finer. 40/70 & 60/90 in a tumbler less then 20 lb. loads, well don't count on the grit changing much.
I too use vibra tumblers, a VSV-45 an a double VT-12. fire agate polishing.
The cement mixer does the best rough tumbling with pillow Basalt gavel from the NW Oregon. Very high in silica. Seem slow toss in silica grinding wheels broken up 2"x2" and fine to, Remove the LEAD CENTER in wheel!

The only bang we know is the Milky-Way Galaxy form about 13.9 Billion Bp.
Hubble photo at top wrong. Sorry Mr. Hubble wish you could've seen the DEEP VIEW exposure for there day. for the other two trillion galaxies.
they range in age from 30 - 70 billion apiece. The radius of our blast ( Milky-way )is 13.9 billion years. to the edge is about 66 billion Bp.
And over half of the two trillion we see, Third have mass. The others are just beaming light energy at use.
Every Black hole is a large micro wave, sucking up your rock collection. to Bang out the Element chart of life again an again. just so you can crawl up to the Oregon Shore to start rock hunting in 13.9 Billion Bp.
What would Hubble say, too many sights in view! Only if he could of seen the work of the Hubble telescope ----
As for the age of the universe. Periodic Table Element Chart. Element in the 13.9 billion Bp. Blast of the radius of where we fly outward!
toward the south is lighter mass that got a head start outward. toward Orion's cluster.
Just a rock Element / E- All of above.
