Jamesp the barrels are 3/16th / and right you are the pressure test did fail a few times. Ram-Steel in Salem Oregon did the barrels & the other parts for the tumbler. the diameter of the barrels 30"diameter - width 24". I have a old octagon barrel that is 3/16th plate 11" wide x 24" diameter. ( this unit i have used for 14 years. ) 16 RPM... this tumbler has been running since the mid-60s. Babbitt bearings on shaft. On old Hwy 99 east in Woodburn Oregon it sat outside of a rock shop rolling for years. the drum shows very little wear. new parts

i need too post the finish photos. adjustable legs were over 200 $$$, complete cost to build to much....it's home now it is in test run now, filled the barrels full of water to run wt. load.
Brazilian & fire agate next. for the real rock run. hatch opening is 6" x 6" so large material.
to clean rock out well the legs are high, so i can put screen lack under. farm duty motor so i can hose clean. engine hoist to pull barrels.

John i run the tumblers same as the small 15 sizes / 2/3 - 3/4 full. then 1 Lb. grit for every 10 Lbs. rock.
Though i crush up old grinding wheels
for large pieces they last longer an i add 40/70 on the rough run with broken pieces.
then add water 2" below rock level run 3 days running.
and check the mud for the right fell, like tooth paste.
for the polish i use viking north model
VSV-45 lb size vibrator models size.
& the same in a double 6 ponder i have two viber-sonic.
only with polish no grit run in them.
