Just wondering if one could do a dry tumble in a vibe with walnut shells and grit or not. or if there would be no way to carry the grit to the rocks? Maybe if you soaked the shell pieces thoroughly they would carry some grit possibly? Ideas anyone??

You can add borax to the water and some floating plastic pellets to do a final burnish, that should get all of the polish off of your rocks.

I am not so new to tumbling, and I DO run floating plastic from coarse to final polish, changing pellets between major grits. However I mainly tumble labradorite and mahogany obsidian, not together of course but they seem to do better this way. But I have had excellent success using plastics in addition to ceramic to add volume to my barrels because we all know that a shortfill is harder on the stones than a 85%+ fill :-)

LMAO, did the seller at least give you a kiss after screwing ya that hard? I just picked mine up for 210.00 including shipping. Looks to be a good drop saw but weather is still far too cold for me to fire it up outside here in Idaho. Best of luck with it and let me know how good it cuts please.

According to John Sinkakas' Gemstone & Mineral Data Book, the proper way to determine the speed is by figuring the SFPM for the drum. RPM = 1,200 ------ C C= Circumference of drum = 3.14 x diameter in inches Hope this helps
