Thank you for posting this thread Rob, as my 33B has done exactly the same as the weather cooled off here in Idaho, so I figured I needed to replace the motor. However looking at the bushings and shaft I now see that all I need to do is replace the shaft so the belt will tighten without having to push the motor as far tight as possible!! Thanks again to everyone for your assistance!!!

I have seen single tumbled alaskan rocks selling for $3 each or general tumbled stuff sell for $3 for a small 1/10th pound bag full. This is what my co-worker recommended selling for. Let me ask about flint ridge ohio flint tumbled (i see that sells online for a crazy $10/lb online) Also supposedly cabs are worth $20-$25 each or if made into necklaces (with gold / silver) than its $25-$45... At least that is what he sells the stuff for. Thre's a huge difference between jasper and american "flint". And there's a huge difference between a raw rock and a finished, well done cabochon. Phil speaks for about everyone reading this I believe!!!

I gotcha. Post some pics of your saws when you have the chance. It's always interesting to see different saws. yeah i have a few threads scattered about that show my saws.. eventually when i get everything fixed and unpacked i will create one thread someplace. I myself if i can part with my tumbled rocks, if they are regular Alaskan river rocks (mostly jasper) i sell for around $4 or $5 per pound... if that is too low please let me know You must be smoking some of that Purple Alaskan Thunder#@$% if you think that 4-5 bucks a pound for tumbled jasper is low, I wouldn't give more than .75-1.00/ pound for jasper unless it was some super duper fantasy sci-fi looking stuff!!!

Okay... Now that's a shine for sure... For a newbe who has only tumbled and made some slab cuts and looking to buy his first buffer/polisher, "when he makes up his mind to spend the monies", I would think to get this quality I will buy something that has wheels that turn. I can't seem to make up my mind... (value vs. quality vs. needs) and... What was the progression of grit you used to get this? Thanks for any suggestions? I will tell you this much, my sis has a Cab-King 8" 6 wheel cab machine and knowing her she took this to 20K polish after starting on the 80 wheel and calling me names before getting it to the 180 and progressing up from there LOL

this is very helpful. I have a small box of it and have set it aside until I gather the information and experience to do it right. I'd never forgive myself if I ruined it. Best thing about Obsidian is that it is very plentiful so you can always get more and continue learning if you burn a batch!!!! Shoot me your address and I can send you some more anytime you would like

Haven't tried it yet. I've just heard stories... As long as it does not frost Toad. Lots of filler seems to protect it. Filler filler filler and barrel filled to 7/8. Like Rob says, it grinds fast and even at 7/8 full barrel it does grind fast. That blue glass comes from a glass recycler in the industrial district about 8 miles from here. It sells for $70/ton. That place is a trip. They got a pile of large glass chunks that is considered a problem since it does not fit in their crushers. So they set it aside. Crushers produce 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch glass for remelt. Segregated by color. Biiig piles. Ha, shaping obsidian easy, getting a wet shine is another story. Prepared for heart break. May use AO 220, AO 600 and then Rock Shed AO polish. Heavy sugar in 600 and polish. Any suggestions welcome. I want Rob's avatar.Buy a Lot-O-Tumbler and follow tntmom's recipe for final polish!!! www.certifiedrockhound.com/otr.pdf

I had ordered a 10lb box of lake Superior agates from ebay. ( If the seller (74impers) is a member here - props to you. Nice bag o'rocks ) Enjoy your day - The HP Yes, Roy has the best lakers that I have found thus far and at surprisingly good prices!!!!! Glad that you are finding the hobby so enjoyable and involving your sons in it, it is probably one of the greatest hobbies there are for family togetherness and fairly low expenses!!!!
