Some of my latest stone and silver work. Landscape agate set. This is something new (I think about stone). The stone is from Central Serbia. A rock friend bring it to me. I really like it. Amethyst ring Ruby and Jade (Nephrite) set. Another amethyst ring. One more I faceted. Not absolutely transparent stone but color is nice. Orange moonstone. Same from another angle. Australian opal. I cabbed this one more than year ago. Thanks for looking. Zoran

Beautiful freeform. I really like it. You did a great job, KD. I bet you enjoyed very much cabing that one in spite cab kept popping from dopstick. If you are doping your cabs by using wooden dopsticks (I use them) I found useful to apply a bit more superglue at the top of the dopstick, just beneath a stone. That way they rarely pop out. I think the reason for popping out is that wooden stick gets soaked with water and actually bond between glue and wooden stick unloose. Zoran

Thanks. It is more difficult than I thought it would be. I was thinking that faceter can rely on machine more than it is actually the fact. At the end, man is the one that makes the difference between badly and well faceted stone. It is more difficult then cutting a cabochon. You definitely need more time to cut one faceted stone than one cabochon. You also need to know a bit more about crystallography, especially refractive index - critical angle. Also you need to be a good friend with geometry. Definitely is good to be patient. It is fun and you have beautiful results. But I could never stop cutting cabochons. Sometimes can be a bit boring to facet, because you need to follow more strict cutting rules. On the other hand there is no better way to process a good transparent crystal. Results are really rewarding. Bottom line is there is no reason one can't learn to facet if is really interested, like in almost everything else. I just can recommend that it is cleaver to buy as good faceting machine as one can afford. Lousy machines can discourage beginner. I know - been there. Zoran

Here is my last faceted one. Quartz - rock crystal. 12,9mm This is the one I am most satisfied with. The brilliance of the stone is much better "in vivo". I tried to capture it in the photo but I just couldn't. I am still trying to find the best method to photograph faceted stones. I find glass as a most appropriate surface for photographing faceted ones. Thanks for looking. Zoran

Thank you all very much. Actually, it was very hard to achieve that old "medieval" look, although it was great fun. Thanks Doc. I hope to travel more :-). Earth - I am glad that it wasn't only me. I was afraid to tell it to my wife - "you know, I am seeing a woman in a rock". Being a psychoanalyst she would surely point to Rorschach test and probably say "Aha, you see what you want to see - other women". And that is only if I would be lucky to be fast enough to finish the sentence with - in a rock. If not, I would probably get the rock ... in the head. ;D Zoran

...especially pendant. Stones on the pendant are (top to bottom) Fire Agate (Hungary), Obsidian (Serbia) and Green Opal (Madagascar). Ring is also with Green Opal from Madagascar. I made that obsidian cabochon long ago and wanted to do something special with it. This is what I came up with. Thanks for looking. Zoran
