On a much more boring side note....please resume prior discussion. Almost 2 days in rotary at 55 RPM and bulk SiC. Before and after. Before tumbling after almost 2 days. grind marks slowly grinding off 2 days? that's it I'm heading out to the wood lathe gonna be speeding up my barrels .

jamesp why not chase with a tap? you could by putting it on your threaded rod and stacking feeler gauges then removing some of the feelers and clamping it in vice and running tap through.

Looked up pipe. It is: 5 inch schedule 5 pipe. Often used in building sprinkler systems. Cheap. .109 wall thickness 5.63 inches in outside diameter Fit too tight before splitting pipe. Fit delightfully tight after splitting pipe and it popping open 3/4" as welded seam pipe often does when split. Beware. Internal seam weld cut out with section removed for unencumbered saddle. Nothing ever goes this easy. james what if you cut less out of the pipe so it wraps more than halfway around? wth 1 end fixed and the other removable with a couple studs and wingnuts and use the clamping force to hold them in?

Ding ding ding ding! WE have a winner folks! Jug #1 contains 9.41 lbs after subtracting for packaging - #2 contains 9.04 Congratulations MrMike and thank you to everyone who played. MrMike if you will send me your address I'll get your prize out pronto. Also want to say a special thanks to everyone who came over from the RTH Facebook group page. The folks here will tell you that Forums are a MUCH more personal way to get acquainted with fellow hobbyists than the fast pace, zero accountability world of Facebook. We invite you all to settle in and make a few posts, ask a few questions and by all means post a few photos of your favorite lapidary creations. Wow, I never win anything, I’d like to thank my Mom for birthing me, my dogs for their unconditional love & support and especially notjustone for being the first LOSER. Seriously great contest & thanks Tommy. ouch lol

We plan to purchase the Lortone Rock Tumbler - Model 33B kit tonight what else should we order we need any tips or advice? We've explained the whole process could take a month, he understands that and is the type of kid that will count down the days and check on the progress. He's hoping to sell some of his finished rocks and my wife plans to help him make some jewelry pieces. the easiest polished, hardest stones like agates can spend a month or 2 in coarse step.

I picked up a tumbler in N Cal that would turn 4 55 gal drums, Mikeyrocks bought it from me. I really wanted to play with that one but he snagged it right up. Tony I'm sure someone turning large quantities like that would benefit from the cheaper bulk grit.

notjustone , they use those big SiC grinding wheels where you work? we used to have grinders with about 36 inch 3 inch thick wheels. but got rid of them when 1 of the wheels exploded and almost killed the operator. but ide guess they were a.o. wheels. its all done with big belt grinders now.
