I'm new to this but I just use a little Dawn in a bucket and a rag to clean the barrel/lid. After hosing off the rocks, I run them for a few hours with just a couple of TBSP of Borax. I'm using a Lotrone 3A, 3 lb barrel. I do add plastic pellets to later stages.

Thanks for the nice comments, this really is fun. I started a batch of Obsidian but will hold off finishing it for a bit. My next batch is PW, only in it's first week.
Colin, thanks for the offer, I sent you a PM.

Thanks for the post. I've been to a couple of the places, probably should breakdown and go to Antelope Canyon. Bryce is a favorite, we go there at least once every couple of years, pass by frequently.

These are awesome pics! Is the little weasel a Pine Martin? Thanks, this is a Long Tailed Weasel, photo taken near Zion N.P. Pretty rare sighting from what I've been told. I was photographing California Condors when this little guy started chasing a lizard right near me. We stood back and watched as another appeared and they darted into their den. I've been in that spot many times but never saw them again.

Great shots! What lens are you shooting on the Bald Eagle in your avatar? Vic That was with a Canon 300 F4 with IS. I'm pretty sure the camera was my Canon 5D, still using it.

I'm in the sunny Southwest and we have clouds and rain! No Eclipse for me. I have glasses left over from the "Ring of Fire", a few years ago. We used them for a partial, too. At 73,

Years ago my wife and I were hiking in Zion and I saw these two rocks, I photographed them and left them. I've printed the photo and actually sold copies in a Gallery I was in. My memory tells me they were 8"-10" long, these were the only two in the area.

Well, I started a couple of months ago. My first batch finished on Saturday, took 9 weeks. This site really helped, I read past posts and tutorials. My batch was self collected Agate and the results were very good, not sure I'd do anything different. My tumbler is a Lotrone 3A, wish I'd bought the 33B. I'm 73, you kids will have a lot of fun!
The hardest thing for me was patience, my wife is amazed at me for getting through this.

I just found this post, I looked up LTA and see that it closed last weekend! I was just in Beaver a few weeks ago, wish I's known about this place, then, or the 3-4 times we stayed in Beaver. I'm going to overnite in Beaver next month, I'll see if there is any info posted at the site.

I've collected custom knives for almost 30 years, when I started I was drawn to the use of stone but never acquired any knives with it. You've done a nice job with these, a lot of talent to fit the stone. Not many totally custom makers use stone. Scott Sawby is one, look up his pieces if you get a chance.

Dixie N.F covers a lot of area, 2 million acres, we spend a good amount of time in it. We've managed to collect quite a bit of Agate and some very pretty, decorative Sandstone. Here area few photos covering a good portion of the area. Pine Park, extreme southwest area, near the Nevada border. Yant Flat: Pine Valley Mountains, one of the largest Laccoliths, Sandstone and Granite: "Twisted Forest", Bristlecone Pines, Brianhead, UT:

I'm on my first batch and totally relate to what you're experiencing. I tumbled Agate for two weeks and moved onto Stage 2, about 1/2 the rocks were pitted, back to Stage 1, added some more rocks to fill. I'm now on my 4th week in Stage 1 for some of the rocks, feels like I may never get to 3 & 4!
This site has really helped, I guess the Lortrone directions are OK but it's the knowledge here that really will get us a good finish.
