lol Sands.. You Talking about when I almost did a head dive for that Giant Shiny Boulder that turned out to be an Impostor? ... What kind of sick joke is it that When You rockers decide to cut a pretty green blue shiny white swirly bowling ball in half and toss it in a agate pile filled with all kinds of goodies that look just like that? .... ... HUH HUH? LOL.. Guess it ain't no worse than my fight with skipper over that piece of plastic I was sure was going to be a new stone they would have to name after me.... lol or that crushed beer bottle glass.. or ... my river rock that was granite and not agate.. *sighs* Maybe I should of taken lessons from Gabbi on crocheting lol.. Peace Roxy

LOL.. Funny Sands.. the truth of the matter is.. I Can't see crap during the day.. All I was seeing out there was Sunstroke Red And Sunstroke Shiney.. sorta like a mirage..or "Mirrogee" as stoner would say .. lol.. and I think I'm better at night here in the desert. all those other stuff I was seeing, I think was due to Dehydration when I was on the verge of Heatstroke.. lol

I'm afraid Roxy's habits are because of us, she moved here at the beginning of March several years ago, I took her out to Date Creek to dig for some crystals and had no idea at that time that she was part polar bear. I kept trying to talk her into sitting in shade for a while but I couldn't get her to move from the hole she was digging in. After a while, I'd ask her something and she would say something like, "lahyoutadehor colrah", so I figured I better nip the situation in the butt. I took a bucket and filled it with really cold water and dumped it on her head, 2 or 3 times. After that she was speaking clearly or rather swearing at me clearly. LOL!
All this desert fun was very new to her and I don't think she realized how quickly this Arizona heat can effect a person.
In the summer months, the only possible way for us to be able to do any digging is to go at night, the days are much too hot to deal with, much less work as hard as we do when digging for chrysocolla. Anyway, Roxy took to that idea like she had been a nocturnal creature all of her life, which I'm thinking maybe she has been, lol! She went back to Montana for a visit, a very long two and 1/2 year visit and has just returned. Now that its winter, (well sorta) we can dig during the day and she tells me, "Whats going on? When you guys plan on doing a night time dig, call me."
I did notice that she is a quick learner, when her, Gabbi, Joe and Duran left for Date Creek, I noticed that she was packing plenty of water, Ice and towels so she could make sure everyone stayed cool enough.
We are working on converting the rest of the family into rockhounds, its either that or I have to keep making potato salad to bribe her Mom to babysit so Roxy can go rockhounding with us. I'm sure glad she likes my cooking, its a fast way to get Roxy out of the house and over here to rock hunt.

;D How did you know I was Nocturnal.. ?? ;D Anyways.. It musta been fate for me to be able to have a killer hobby as rock hunting AAannnd to be able to do it at night..my favorite time of day... ;D Oh btw.. Your Version of the story.. is alot different than mine.. Not that anyone really wants to know what happened out there.. But I dunno .. I'll tell it for the sheer misery of it.. ;D It wasn't just March.. But almost the hottest time of the year.. did you forget it was 115' degrees (in the shade) sweltering heat that sneaks up on you.. and oh my bad.. WHAT SHADE?? You mean that little dried out tumble weed next to me? Or that cactus that kept waving at me.. Or was it that Buzzard that kept circling over my head.. ?? Hmmm I musta missed the shade thing that day.. What I'm about to tell you is the honest to Rock truth (What you are about to read may be harmful to your imagination please read with caution)......... I don't recall her asking me much.. I do remember a mountain I didn't see when we first pulled up there.. but I remember that mountain suddenly had a cave in it.. and a wolf was howling from that cave... I did hear my named called but didn't know where it was coming from or who was saying it.. I remember digging and finding myself (not in a hole) but sitting in the middle of this sundial.... and I was watching the shade of that center move around me counter clockwise with the sun(which was probably that buzzard) anyways.. I remember talking to someone ( I think it was Jamie) And then telling them about the sun dial and the wolf howling at me.. I remember trying to talk.... but my lips and tongue were so dry I couldn't even open my mouth... and then I remember trying to move but, instead having this over whelming feeling to just stay in this sun dial..Instead I Kept trying to move my legs .. only to find that I could only move one finger.. So I figured I would just continue to (dig) or scratch at the dirt , and flick little rocks from the sun dial.. Suddenly I felt all better.. and was able to tell her that I was fine and that I wasn't even sweating anymore.. that I must of gotten used to the heat.. before I could even finish what I was about to say.. I was drowning.. yes drowning in ICE COLD WATER not just once but at the point i was gasping for air because it was so cold i thought i was going into shock.. I felt another bucket being poured on my head and down my throat.. the rest is a blurr of puking and then seeing there was no mountain, no wolf, no sun dial .. feeling sick and then falling asleep.. TRUE STORY.. Days later did I come to find out.. I was on the verge of experimenting ARIZONA'S NUMBER ONE KILLER..... LOL.. Now.. I only do the night.. Gave it one more shot on this trip.. and ONCE AGAIN.... Too close for comfort.. so .. I will stick to my night time rendezvous and remain.. (THE INFAMOUS) MIDNIGHT ROXY .... (bows gracefully) ;D Roxy

LOL.. honestly I'd bring one too.. But so far I haven't had any run ins' with any snakes .. only a tranchala.. and yeah.. that was spooooky.. but I learned most of them are harmless.. (or that's what jamie has me believing) But I was hoping they would have an Arizona special *NIGHT HUNTS* But maybe next time.. I guess you have to be willing to go to the extremes.. It's something you'd have to get used to .cuz I think it was rocklicker that went out with us for one.. but I don't think he took to kindly to it.. LOL> but I think they are fun.. then again.. could just be me.. *smiles* But you're on for the next one!

Yup, I remember that. I actually liked it a lot, but I kept getting distracted by the the beautiful night sky and enjoying the quietness. I live in a large-ish twon and don't get to see stars that much. Actually it had been about 10 years since I'd seen stars like that so I was looking up just as much as down. It was alot easier to see the rocks, but I kept thinking that if there was a snake hanging around that I would just about step right on it (never mind that I came close to doing that anyway in broad daylight). I had a great time, especially riding on the ATV at night on the way back with TAZ. I mean it, the pup kept me warm!
BTW, has anyone heard from the nice horse people from Canada that we met on the trip. I don't remember their names. It was sure fun to meet them and convert them into rockhounds. I'm hoping they keep in touch. Steve

Wow!!! Can't believe I missed this thread somehow. I spent eight years in out west and drove between Az and Nev numerous times. I knew Burro Creek was a rock producer but I just figured it was "mined out" like a lot of areas are these days. That's why I never stopped and explored that area. I'd like to make a suggestion for the next trip if you have one. Someone needs to bring a metal detector along and use it at all times. You can search for rocks too. Get a backpack for storing rocks you find so you can swing the detector. Just never know what you might come across in an area like that, whether it's meteorites, gold nuggets, old coins, artifacts, etc. Don't need an expensive one either. I would take a metal detector with me ANYPLACE I was looking for rocks, esp in the western states. Thanks for the photos. Steve
