There’s so many prairie agates you have to get picky or you’ll never make it up the hill back to the UTV!
The rain really washed things out over here. It’s my last trip of the year but I have a box of rocks to polish up over Winter.

Do I have any reason to go out one more time later this month...or did you find all the good stuff?

Likely my last trip but you never know! Having my buddy come with his new Honda Pioneer was really handy! We found really good agates on the West side pretty far down the main trail. Seemed like anytime you got more than 400-500 yards off the trail walking in the grass you would Find Prairie Agates galore.
I may have found one Fairborn looking Agate but will Post some pics when I get them cleaned. Will show some dirty rocks in the next post.

Here’s my bucket I collected over 2 1/2 days. I would like some feedback or thought of the type of agate (or rock) I collected. I thought some of the stuff at the top of the pic might be petrified wood but wasn’t sure as it seemed like it was all over. Always fun to pick up a piece or two of quartz as well! I enjoy collecting rocks but am new to the agate collecting. Was my fourth time out here to collect so have quite a few in addition to this but haven’t found what I believe a Fairborn agate is yet! Just ordered a polisher to give that a try over Winter.

Also found a bunch of shell fossils?? Way too fragile to collect however but all over since the creeks washed out on the East side of the road.

I do know there are a lot of "clam" shells along the Cheyenne River that came from Angastora Reservoir...but they're not fossilized. I have found some clam shell imprints in rocks - in fact, quite frequently, but they're nowhere this size... Here’s a better pick of the weekend adventures! Nice haul of Prairie Agates! This does look like Petrified Wood there in the back left corner.

Thanks, I wasn’t sure about the petrified wood at all.
The creeks on the East side washed out big time with the rain and there’s a bunch of clumps of clay/rock that has these shell imprints in them. I picked one up and it fell apart hence why I took pics. Many are pretty large in one area where it appears someone broke a bunch of this material apart on the bank.
I have about 200 prairie agates and 1 Fairburn to polish up this Winter! Will post anything that looks like a success!

Fairburn? 😎 That's a gorgeous looking rock! I'm not sure what it is...but I'm pretty sure it isn't a Fairburn.

Fairburn? 😎 Oooh! That is really cool! Kinda looks like tiger eye on the edges. That's exactly what I was thinking about the Tiger Eye! That's a gorgeous looking rock! I'm not sure what it is...but I'm pretty sure it isn't a Fairburn. Well, I guess I have 201 agates to polish up this Winter! 😂 I really hated posting that...I took NO pleasure in it. That being said...I'd be really curious to see some more pictures of this particular piece (If you can...or are willing). It's pretty unusual...and I don't know that I've seen anything like it...

So took pics of both ends so you can see how the banding go thru it. Not sure what it is. Saw the circle bands of red and thought I might have a Fairburn. Will be interesting to see how all these rocks over four trips turn out!

Okay, from this angle, I do recognize having seen rocks like this out at the Buttes. I don't know what it is... So took pics of both ends so you can see how the banding go thru it. Not sure what it is. Saw the circle bands of red and thought I might have a Fairburn. Will be interesting to see how all these rocks over four trips turn out! I really do look forward to seeing the results on the "spoils"! One last post here, anyone ID what these are? Total guess...I mean totally guessing...could they perchance be Stromatolite?
