Cheers all - I'm pleased with this lot myself. Rocky - to answer your points - yup (the ones on the left (I assume you meant left)) I havent taken a picture of close up - I was was waiting for some clear blue sky and good sunlight to experiment a bit. I think youre right about the rocktypes. Yes definately carnelian. With regards to the Tiger Eye, Im having probs with it and cannot decide what to do. I ran it in tin as I said I would have a dabble, but whilst the faces came on exceptionally well - the edges dulled? So its out at the moment and may need 600, then just Tin oxide straight off - but maybe no more than two days - three tops. Got to be careful though as there is a thin piece in there which I want to make a pendant with and i'm worried it will chip finally or even break in two...... Crazy - lol - one of them has even got the camera shape in it - you can just about make out its a silver camera case. Herm - clean living room? You cant see the rest of it!!!! Why do you think I took the pic so close to the fireplace? Been busy on a new project and wouldnt mind some views on it from you guys in the coming weeks. Its taking all my time up and ive been swamped with issues.

Ok - got some new pictures of some rocks which have just completed the rounds. First up is some of the rock WilliamC kindly sent over. I cannot remember what its called but its come out great - had to finish it in 3 days Tin Oxide. Next up is some Brazillian agate - from two nodules I had - hard to tumble - took about 10 x 80 rolls to shape out. And finally - and including the orange samples on the left which are also from WilliamC - is the place these shiners sit. I still have plenty of rough left William - but I want to cut it into preshapes with a saw this time, as breaking it up with the hammer left a fair few fractures here and there which I can do without. Im waiting for a bit of sunshine to take some pics outdoors, but its raining as per usual !!! Cheers all. Andy

Banjo - someone once said to me - "Grit Wrecks Everything". Reckon so..... Nice website btw - I popped over there again the other day to see you looking out over the "creek". Looks like a great place to relax and be alone. I have put a link to you on the links page of Rocktumblinghobby.com - to get more visitors to your site though - do a bit of reading on the html <TITLE> tag. Most of your pages have no title, and therefore the search engines don't know how to list them properly and rank them low down as a result. Once you insert a title tag, the engine spiders will readjust your sites positioning. Choose your words carefully, and if you really want to go for it - visit www.wordtracker.com and see what the planet is searching for...... Have fun Banjo - Laters. Andy.

Good idea -
Ok, who's going to switch the barrels and give them a good scrubbing between grits?
I know - we could stick Jacko in it with his leathers on and turn it on for a few hours. That should clean it out - wouldnt do much for his leathers though.
;D

Banjo - I stuck them in a Cement Mixer One of those trucks which turns as it goes Yup - will post pictures of comparison when done - I think they need to be taken under sunlight aswell to get them sharper - these were taken under little spotlights and they blurred a bit. "Plus, I'd really don't think any one else is ever going to get that close to the stone and find any fault." LOL - yeah but I get to look close and it just aint good enough....

Hi Sands, how you doin? Ok - the 80 went for 7 recharges at 4 days a run. So about a month. Some of the bits are really thin - a few flats formed as there wasnt much material left in the barrel by the end of it. One day I swear I'll get some tiger eye to lose its angular shape - they have that characteristic slant on them dont they. Somehow different than everything else I tumble. Impatience got the better of me here though - aswell as the fact i'd lost so much so I took em out and let the blighters chill in the 220.

I thought I'd post a pic up of what I get at absolute best with Cerium and Tiger Eye. Looking closely - I get the feeling that the angle of the "grain" is causing the difficulty in the polishing. The one on the left (whilst the photo doesnt quite show it unfortunately) has a higher sheen than the one on the right - which has its grain running more "down the face". The one on the left has its bands cutting out into the face at almost 90 degrees - almost like looking at the end of a piece of wood cut along the grain. I'm needing to buy some tin oxide asap - as ive stopped this tumble now after 6 days in Cerium. I'll put them in the tin and get another closeup shot to see if they improve by any measurable amount. Ok - laters all. Cheers Andy.

hmmmm - I sometimes/often wonder how many people who come into these boards actually leave due to probs signing in etc.
Theres not a lot I can do though as the boards are hosted by another company.

Ok folks, I've got the ok from you kind people - I shall put up the new pages tomorrow. I'll start a new section on "identifying rocks" and get some kind of list up for visitors to browse what you have all done (and me of course ). It would be essence to get get every single kind of rock that exists listed and pictured - but thats only a strange dream given the variants and the fact that half the stuff we have hasnt even got a name. I'm not taking a scientific approach to www.rocktumblinghobby.com - i.e. I wont be showing the chemical composition of Malachite on there - just a picture..... I'll shout up once the pics are up and Ive restructured the site. Should be tomorrow unless someone starts wanting their PC fixing or a website doing...... work - I hate it. Andy.

All,
Can I post the pics onto the main site - I always ask I know - but I prefer to get the Ok or not ok.
I think more pics on the site - arranged in an "Identifying Rocks" section for example, with each one clickable to link through to here could bring more visitors in to the board.
Let me know - Ive got a day or so of spare time at the mo with it being easter. Cheers Andy.

Great looking colour in there James.
I hope my batches from WilliamC which are on the roll now come out like that. They are only on their second 80 recharge at the mo. Third today though.
Ive also got some of that dark brown/grey banded stuff on aswell - thats at 220 today.
Eager to get them out and on display - tick tock though.
Industry standard polish there yet again.
Andy.

Yes - the bands are superlative - I have not smashed the smallest one in the pic - and it isnt tumbling either.
I need some serious thought on what to do with that one. I dont want an "egg" but I dont want it broken up.............. hmmmmmmmmm.

Hi all - these are the rocks which William C sent all the way way from the US to me. I've smashed them up and they are rolling now - I just wish I'd placed a scalable item on the pic - the smallest stone is about the size of a fist though. I don't want to let William C down so I'll do my best with these. One thing - THANKS WILLIAM - to get a parcel through the post from the US for no reason at all is a massive treat and surprise, even though you told me you were sending them. You spent more than the rocks cost on shipping and I'm totally greatful. Lets put it this way - I told a workmate about this and he said "It restores my faith in human beings". Get that. Andy - dont know what else to say. Thanks mate.

llanago,
hi, you may wish to reduce your pics a touch so that the "reply"link is within the viewing area of the screen - I had to scroll over to the right to see the reply link.
But then again my PC isnt exactly top of the range and others - with a better resolution - may see the link with no probs.
Anyways, most of your rocks there are agates.
I need to go to google to search for "what forms agates" "agate structure" "agate formation"
To get the lowdown on why these stunning rocks exist.
The orange coloured one at the top middle of the second pic is absolutely almost like a fossilized plant.
What causes this? I have no idea - every rock is different and they come from the mother.
Andrew.

Superb. Absolutely superb once again James. I have NEVER had tiger eye come up like that, youve inspired me to go and get some and see if I can equal that.
