I bought the 14 (still in box) and thought it came with a vertical vise like the 10. On the 10 the clutch handle is a lever to the right of the carriage and the clutch is a spring attached to a curved threaded piece of metal that sits on the feed rod. My spring broke I waited more than a month for the spring to arrive. I am not particularly handy and when I replaced the spring there wasn't enough tension so the carriage wouldn't advance. I put a threaded metal clip from my Covington behind the clutch assembly and the feed works.

Mark K how do we find about more about what you have to offer. @hefty Stardiamond listed some of the sites I've been spending too much on lately. Cabs and Slabs is another. Actually they have two FB sites, on one they sell slabs and the other is cabs. I've got a couple pounds of Larimar coming from there in the next few days. I don't buy cabs which is what the cab page sells. I check out what is being offered. A lot of people sell on facebook. I'm not interested even though I could make some sales. It's a two tiered system with core people having free access to sell and others limited. I have seen some pettiness. I do this as a hobby and don't need aggravation. I do all my selling on Etsy and even there I try not to undercut those who are trying to generate income. I am interested in only selling enough to cover material and equipment. Since the weather is nice I am making ten times what I am selling.

I have Covington 16 combo saw. I bought it in 2008 and it sat in the box until 2014 when I retired. I paid less than half of the current price. With the clutch system it cuts very fast. The crossfeed would drift causing uneven slabs and blade binding. The clutch needs way too much adjustment. I can walk away from the HP and when I did thatwith the Covington the blade would bind and burn out the rubber belt. I was buying a lot of belts. The only objection I have to the 14 I bought is the .09 kerf. It isn't an issue with really big rocks but I cut a lot of small rough so I am glad I have the 10.

I have a 10 and a 14 (still in the box). The 10 has been reliable and slow. HP had a father's day sale for 10% off rocks and equipment. I bought slab at their zoom meeting. They even said that they would honor it for alleady placed orders when the buyer was willing to pay in full instead of having only a deposit. Worth a call or email.

I'm copying what I posted on the high cost of rough topic. My general advice is to know very well the particular material you are interested in buying. I'll take an opposite position. Unless you want to set the time machine for more than 10 years back, this is a great time to be buying slabs; quality and price. I am always looking for a wide variety of material, so I do check out ebay and sometimes Etsy, but I very little from those sites. I am currently buying from 6 Facebook groups and prefer BIN to auction. Most of the sellers are hobbyists. I watch the listings and they buy stuff from each other. The only problem with BIN is that with time zones, I wouldn't be able to get any sleep since slabs are being listed almost 24 hours a day. Here are my page links:

www.facebook.com/groups/CreativeSlabConnection
www.facebook.com/groups/THESLABDEPOT
www.facebook.com/groups/1580169828944386 (wild west slabs and rocks)
www.facebook.com/groups/2103732609822197 (mike's rocks)
There are probably a lot more that I haven't explored. This is a hobby and information should be shared. Payment is usually by a paypal invoice and some sellers are quicker than others to invoice and ship. Most of my buying experiences have been positive.

is there is a plan b when something goes wrong. I have a Great Shapes template that has 5 pears. I normally use the second largest or when the rock dictates the next smaller size. I was working on a MHPJ cab and chunks starting coming off the nose. Not a break and it's over but one at a time. I took the cab off the dop and redrew the next smaller size, spent a minute or so grinding to the mark and redopped.

I buy a lot of cigars on the internet and over the years shipping can be free, flat rate or variable based on the number of items ordered. I have a strategy for each and for flat rate I order more to reduce the cost of shipping as a percentage of the total purchase. I use the same strategy buying lapidary. I've been buying from Blairrock for a while and he frequently will put a $5 bill in the package to cover the difference between a priority small rate box and what he charged. I've been buying from West Coast Slabs and Rocks at facebook and he charges $16.50 flat rate. When I can't find enough items to justify the shipping I wait. When I ship, I use a priority mail large flat rate padded envelope for $8.75. I put the slabs in a wooden cigar box that will file in the envelope. When I sell on Etsy I buy a first class label for $4-5. Yesterday's order from Blairrock.

I mark fractures and all areas I want to avoid. I bought a huge piece of Laguna rough some years ago. It had a large crystal vug. I got it for a good price. As the slabs were being cut, I thought I hit the motherlode. After wiping the oil off, I saw all the fractures. I also noticed that the pattern changed a lot between sides making design very difficult.

I have a Genie and have three extra right side adaptors. I only use two. The third had stripped threads and I didn't know if I could fix it (I did). The reason for my first adaptor was the left side adaptor froze and I couldn't get it loose. I put new wheels on the extra adaptor for the ones on the left that needed to be replaced. The second adaptor only has a 14,000 and a 50,000 soft wheel.
I also work in batches. I don't know about cab king but here are some advantages of an extra adaptor or two: 1. Wider wheel spacing or wider wheels is possible. 2. More grits to work with. Does a person need the grit grits, probably not but the adaptor is inexpensive and good less expensive wheels are available. 3. This is the big one: two eighty grit hard wheels; one aggressive and one worn. My aggressive is on the right and the worn is on the left.

Butchering has a bad connotation so step one was identifying the primal cuts. Step two trimming the primal cuts.

I have a Genie attachment with an 8" blade and the hood gets in the way of cutting rocks. Yours would work like a tile saw; push through or rotate the rock to the blade. Slabbing rocks with a trim saw wears out blades faster than just trimming. My saw uses a water additive. I don't know about Cab King.

I logged in again. They had a bunch of Guadalupe poppy jasper slabs for sale and I got one. Very expensive and hard to find. They have a 10% discount on rough and also their equipment today. I'll post a picture when I get it.
