Welcome, John! I'm originally from Ames. You're not too far from coral (around Coralville, go figure) and Keokuk for geodes.

Hi Mario,
That's the site and I had the same experience, except that I didn't go as far as entering credit card info. I searched around and found that they'll quote you shipping after you've placed the order. I would call them before doing that...
Donnie said that she gets free shipping on 5 gallons $50 orders.

Sorry to hear about your troubles Mel.
I would actually take a slightly more extreme approach after system restore. Recover your wife's files to a clean back up drive or CD/DVD (so that nothing you transfer can get infected), then format the hard drive and reinstall windows. You want to make sure you've completely removed any traces of viruses or keyloggers. (A keylogger records your keystrokes and sends them to somebody else; it's a terrific way to steal passwords.) Install a good commercial antivirus program. And, yes, change all of your passwords after you've done that.

I was guessing quartz mixed with epoxy, but may be wrong. I think epoxy is frequently used to fill in voids in marble, granite, etc. counter tops.
Beautiful stuff!

Sorry to hear your ills, Mario. I hope you turn the corner soon (your head and the rest of your body). I just turned 51 myself and had my 4th form of cancer (melanoma) this summer. Fortunately cancer hasn't gotten me yet!
I _hate_ narcotics, especially oxycodone, vicodin, and percocet. Among other things, they make me nauseated and feel completely out of it (in a bad way). FYI: oxycodone is 2 to 3 times stronger than vicodin.

Glad it solved your problem, Susan.
I also use Bardahl No Smoke, but I've also started wearing either a face mask or respirator, too. I've noticed that even when I can't see mist, I can smell it. I spoke to an oil distributor who said that the white mineral oil has a tendency to become aerosolized. Just because you can't see it, it doesn't mean it's not there. Better safe than sorry. That's also the reason I stuck with No Smoke: it seemed to have the fewest additives.

I dress as I go, sometimes in the middle of a cut if it has slowed down considerably. It seems to me that grit goes right to the bottom of the sump. The oil I use settles the muck pretty quickly, so what the blade picks up is relatively clean.
I also save my dirtiest rocks for last. Binghamite is far and away the dirtiest material I've ever cut; lots of iron in it.
I like the spray bottle idea. I might have to give that a shot (or squirt).

I don't get too anal about cleaning the saw. I try to suck out the bulk of the muck, scrape off the sides, and remove the clay, but I don't degrease or scrub. Like Dave, I don't see the point of going to that much effort when I'm just going to turn around and get it filthy again.
When I refill the saw I use the oil to wash off the vise, carriage, etc.

Thank you Krystee! I see what you mean about the selection and I would have been confused by the name, so thanks for pointing that out.
Like everyone else, I'm in awe of your skill!

My daughter has an amelanistic corn snake named Rubius because of it's pink and red coloring. Very pretty snake and not what I would think of as albino, but I understand that might be the proper scientific classification.
I nearly got an anerythristic corn snake as a partner. It's unbelievable how many different colors breeders have developed.

That's beautiful stuff! I've never seen fluorite that big or that pretty. May I ask where you got it?
Any chance you can re-cut the small one to a smaller cab or earrings?

I don't think you're missing anything Sheltie. I've got a bunch of sludge that still has oil in it, but it's not filtering through the sack very well. I plan to mix it with water and freeze it to reclaim as much oil as possible.
As for the hardened muck on the bottom of the saw, my saw sucker won't pull it out unless I loosen it up first with a drywall knife. I use a big shop vac, but I wait so long between cleanings that the muck is really dried to the bottom. The vac does fine sucking up the pudding.

Congrats! That really was a good deal. I have 2 of those 10" saws, one power feed and one gravity feed. I think they're great!

I've had pretty good luck alternating Freeze-Off and heat. I might just have to order some wintergreen oil just to have on hand. I'm tired of busted bolts and busted knuckles! Thanks for the tip!

Congrats on the new saw! I can't imagine hounding material for it. :-)
Maybe you can team up with some masons to cut sidewalks, fireplace surrounds, counter tops, entry ways, etc. Commercial work would pay much better than lapidary.
