Beautiful cabs! That is a stunning bone, no doubt about that! I'd be interested in your "polish removal" technique - I've never had any luck with that. For this one it was real easy- a cotton ball and acetone. The texture is very shallow. Wasn't undercutting, just the way it is textured. It was the oily diamond paste. I need to reshoot my pictures now. It looks much better. No magic fix for those micro pores some of them have huh?

Freaking insanely gorgeous Tela! I'd say your research paid off in spades on that Fluorite! Just gorgeous. I've never seen flowers like that in Shattuckite before too - primo stuff! You must have been happy to find THAT slab!

That would be awesome! We have a Bevmo next door to our office building and Friday after work a bunch of us go over to see what's out for tasting. My favorites are the big dark malty beers - quad ales especially.

Yeah, a lot of people use opticon. It depends on how elaborate you want to get. I've avoided vacuum chambers and heating and all that - so the Opticon sits on the shelf. I've only used Hot Stuff before and it had soso results. I don't usually try to save fractured stones though - just have delicate or brittle stones - so I back those with other stones or with steel epoxy (or I've heard of lighter things being used too) instead.

Morning dose of yummy cabs! So hard to pick but I'm going to go with the Hornitos - love the color combo in that one. The rhodonite is also gorgeous - the pink looks like candy!

I use an Ameritool 4" trim saw and an Ameritool flat lap with a 90 degree jig installed. The 90 degree jig is only sorta ok though - I'd rather have that beast Chuck posted (or a faceting machine would probably work too, depending on what angles you want). As long as you're good at eyeballing things though, any sort of flat lap and trim saw with minimal blade clearance will get it done for occasional repair work.

Those are just gorgeous. Great cutting job, the plumes are displayed perfectly! And I'm not even gonna mention the polish! ;-)

Also sodalite tends to have more white inclusions, and often has orange inclusions too. That can be a signal. Lapis tends (not always but often) to be a more uniform color (be it dark, medium, or more denim looking).

So I figured out part of my ebay problem is that my old "saved searches" don't work any more. Now that I've surfed to the search I want (lapidary materials, auction only, sorted by ending soonest), it works pretty ok. You still have to do math to find out when the auctions close, but other than that it's ok. And this time I saved my search as a bookmark in Firefox, not in ebay.
I'm enjoying Roy's and Tony's and (etc's) facebook auctions . . . haven't found Christopher's yet.
