As someone that's done this off and on for years............don't plan on getting rich lol. Problem when asking a lot of money is that then you are trying to sell what's going to be viewed as 'homemade' vs. a production unit with a known reputation and warranty. It's hard to make a worthwhile sum and at $2300 you are only $350 less than a brand new 18" Highland Park and a new HP unit will kick this saws ass all over the place. And that's pretty sad and shows what being put on global playing field with the likes of people making 50cent an hour is good for. They should've already ran Covington and Lortone completely out of the slab saw market and it's probably just a matter of time. Then you have the flip side of trying to come in cheap and end up doing too much work for the amount of money you'll make. Everything in the US is in a total race to the bottom trying to catch up with the other countries who enslave workers. You'd have to have a hole in your head to choose a 18" Lortone over a new HP, that model has totally lost it's 'economical' selling point and is a waste of money with today's globalism. You can pop the sidewalls of the Lortone with your bare hand, it's not a true roller bearing vise it glides on steel, and it's $500 more?
I also don't like the allthread kickstand on the motor that's totally ass backwards it should come off the bottom of the tank if the pulleys don't line up spend more time with the tape measure.
I'm not saying you can't/won't make any money just don't quit your day job lol. Only other thing I noticed off hand was the 'slow' speed so you say of 1" every 3 minutes? Isn't that 20" per hour? Might want to rethink that one. I make mine about 8" per hour. Too slow for some. Don't really care. Covingtongs used to be 10" per hour and that was too slow for some now they are 12" and have even more problems than they did before.
I'd like to add that i've heard a couple complaints about the new HP's, but how many complaints do we hear about Covington and Lortone lol. After looking at them i'd have to say most of it is probably operator error. It is what it is so my as well recognize it.
In all honesty your biggest selling point is that people don't know everything I just told you. For instance i've sold a few new 16" i've built this summer for $1400. I won't be surprised if I have a harder time selling a used 18" HP for that amount. "Oh good lord Charlie, it's 30 years old!!!". LOL. For any rockhound that's been around the block that would be a no brainer.

Me and my neighbor friends refer to our propane tank as "The Pig". I burn mostly wood. Don't think I save much $ but I can keep it a lot warmer for the same price. Speaking of which, the Pig is on about 50% so I need to go put a padlock on it before mr.propane stops by and conveniently fills it up without asking. A couple years ago I was on around 10% in April, forgot to lock it and have a $600 bill waiting. Pissed me off. My avg eletric bill is $215 also. Well good luck, being a newlywed at least you won't mind cuddling to stay warm if you have to. LMAO.

Next thing you know health inspectors will show up and make an example out of someone with over $50k in fines, big uproar, and the solution will be a $250 permit and only 3 allowed per year or some stupid crap like that. Oh the horror!!!!

Here is my youtube vid of it: Here is the ebay auction: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=121176087679Anyone at RTH can have it for $1450 thru paypal outside of ebay. That includes crating but freight is extra and will be in the $320 range. I can also hold the saw for pickup for a pre-arranged time period. I am near Leavenworth, KS. Sorry at this point in time i'm not taking trades or partial payments. I don't think this saw has been used a whole lot, just extra dirty from sitting around decades and letting the old pella get nasty. First come first served.

New definition of recovery: Crash and burn and then somewhat stabilize. Pretty expensive stabilization being held together by threads if you ask me. Same ole playbook.......go to war to get ourselves out of this mess. Problem now is everyone has these pesky things called nukes. Don't think the final chapter will end that well.

I knew a kid that peed on an electric fence knowing he would get shocked and did it just to be a smarty pants. I can assure you he never did it again. Too bad it wasn't at weed burner voltage.

*LOL* I'm with Rob. Lortone and Covington could really use some input from someone who had actually used their equipment. Both companies obviously have problems in that area as one spends as much time fixing their equipment as one does using it *L*.....Mel Even thought the subject of 'expense' is the major issue I agree actually talking to customers FIRST could go along ways. It's just like any other big biz. Here's your new Coke. I hope you like it because our gazillion dollar a year taste tester sure does!

I wonder if they would consider hiring a rockhound that could tell them everything that is wrong with the stuff they build? LOL. That's funny! OTH, they built machines with affordable price points in mind and I'm still [mostly] happy with one of their slab saws and a slant-cabber I bought from them a l-o-n-g time ago. Bearing replacements and refinishing to repair rust have been my biggest problems. They've finally discovered stainless steel but back when I bought their stuff I probably couldn't have afforded it. A little elbow-grease and epoxy "paint" have saved the day for me. The biggest problem with the slab saw is that I practically need an engine hoist to change cutting oil/clean sludge. But I think many people who couldn't have afforded to get into the hobby with top-end equipment have had lots of enjoyment from Lortone machines. Rick Good points and truthfully I already knew that I was just poking fun. All comes down to you get what you pay for...or at least hopefully. I would have no problem referring a cash strapped newbie to them however even at the price can seem way too high or impossible. I was wanting big equipment by the time I was 8 and when I met my first true rockhound friend.......who no doubt lived 5 houses down on the same street and I never even knew it......when I was about 11 he had just about everything I had ever seen in a magazine and I was pretty blown away by it. Would've been nice to had met him sooner as he died about a year later.

I credit you for your honesty, Rob. And now your chances of ever getting laid by your wife again have gone way down, LOL! Seriously (and I've said this before), men are not better than women, or genetically superior. We are just different. Vive la différence! Would you want it any other way? LOL thanks for being a good sport. In all honesty I really don't have any business calling anyone else crazy lol.

Well I see no one has touched this topic so I guess i'll stick my neck out since it's already been severed anyhows.
In my mind........men are are no doubt genetically smarter than women. The crazy shit that comes out of my wifes mouth just really blows my mind at times. IMO the opinion that gravitates towards survival and not some idiotic mind trip that would take an alien lifeform to deduce is the correct answer. Probably the best conclusion would be a hand in hand type agreement......not too much testostorone and not too much lithium and we could derive at some sort of understanding. Then again the thought of ever getting laid again could've influenced my last thought.
We aren't the same and that's all there is to it. I admit.......most of my male friends think woman are crazy and so do I. There I said it. Plus 1 for at least being honest.

If they really wanted to stop smoking they could just put a self-exploding cigarette in random boxes packed with c4 that would just blow your face off and no insurance company would cover it. Problem solved.

Staples suck. I had a couple hundred or so at least. Don't remember. Do remember having some taken out. Yay!
I like the 'hammer bone back in place' comment the best.
