That's a stunner. Like Paul said, that ribbon effect is awesome.

Galvanized fire pit equals sick marshmallow roasters. The zinc will boil off and the fumes are mildly toxic causing headaches and such until the body clears the zinc out. Same as if you welded galvanized steel parts. Google it. This. Zinc poisoning is nothing fun. A zinc fire pit would be some bad juju. Russ Neat bender though, always wanted one.

Been meaning to get a picture of this stuff for months. Yesterday I had to move it anyway so I grabbed the camera and took a few minutes to get a few pictures. These were found this past summer. Forgot to put in anything for scale, but the seat slats on that old chair are about 3" wide. The rock weighs 11 pounds. The reddish chert in there makes it a little unusual. This smaller piece was sitting there as well. That smaller piece is going to get an acid bath, I believe. See if I can dissolve the limestone and leave the chain coral. They are one of a couple of possibilities of Halysites. I'll work on figuring that out this winter. Thanks for looking. Russ

So your all caught up now. I Like the purple/red stone in the third photo from the bottom best. Chuck Yeah, caught up except for the five tumblers running right now, including another batch in polish. That really is a nice little stone. I need to go get some more of that stuff. Russ

Not too shabby for your seconds. I like the three rocks in the fourth photo the best. Thanks. Thought of you Michigan guys when I pulled them out. Couple of places we go it's almost impossible not to trip over that stuff. Russ

Great mixed batch again. I think I'll throw a few pieces of obsidian in my next batch after seeing so many of yours come out nice.

Yesterday afternoon Wampidy Jim stopped by with a few slabs he'd cut from rocks we'd found on our little trip a few weeks ago where he said I was trying to kill him. Anyway, one of the rocks that I had handed him was white with dendrites. I hadn't had time to fool with any of it but he got it slabbed and showed it around to I guess a couple of people and it turned out to be opal. He brought me a couple of slabs and I thought I'd share them. other side This slab he had polished and it looks nicer than my photo shows. other side And this is a slab of some of the brecciated stuff that he had cut. Kind of interesting stuff. Thanks again Jim, if you see this. Thanks for looking. Russ
