At that rate if you don't get into the movies you will be able to start chopstick production and supply half of china. great pulse and respiration, that's amazing, especially considering the smoking habit. good on you. amazing what one person with a determined mindset can do. How the pioneers did it... only without the sophisticated tools we use these days. It would be cool to see an aerial photo today and compare with one a couple years from now. Know anybody with a plane who could take one? Google Earth satellite close up ?

olfactory memories: mingled scent of horse sweat/manure/trail dust/leather and saddle soap, and straw/hay. I wouldn't want to wash after I'd visited the barn. Banana bread baking = mom
roast beef and baked taters= grandmas house
grandmas bathroom always smelled so clean( and it was). Took years to discover she used the old red Lysol and ajax cleaner. The mingled scent is what I remember.
the smell of sidewalk and pavement after a hot dry spell, when it first starts to rain... the hayloft while the hay is curing
the smell right after a lightning storm... the electric charge in the air.
the first time of snow in winter when you can smell the snow before it gets there.
the breath of different trees when you walk under them at dawn. Maple, Oak, etc all have their own scents that seem to linger just under the branches, coming down with the morning dew.

We had fun with this thread a couple years back. There's so many new folks on here, I thought it would be cool to "bump" it up so you can all share.
Olfactory memories are very strong. I happened to smell an odor just yesterday that I hadn't smelled in many, many years. I'm unsure of the actual source, but I happened to smell it as I was walking by a car as someone got out. Aftershave? Cologne? Something inside his car? That scent had been burned into (literally) my memory as a child! I don't know what I was actually smelling, but the scent reminded me of making Creepy Crawlers on a Thingmaker!! If you were born in the later 60's, I'm sure you have no idea what I am talking about, lol. Young whippersnappers! Info on Wiki here.
If you have anything to add, knock yourself out. If not, just enjoy it. Jean
Oh yes I remember creepy crawler smell. just in case you want to sniff that again, check out the "new car smell" in a can from the automotive section of your favorite box store, I think you'll locate the source of that aroma.

I have heard of Wm. Holland, of course, and heard good things, too. Here is a link to the place they are taking lessons from and loving it. abqsilverstoneacademy.com/about

Drummond Island Rocks Chuck, they live near Albuquerque NM, and take silver smithing classes there. There is a Michigan Silver Smith guild which gives silver working lessons and seminars. I have a link to the stuff they offer somewhere. I follow their page on facebook. I'll see if I can find that and post it here. There are a few places near Detroit which offer lessons, nothing near the mitt where I am, and it is too far for me to drive and too expensive for me to stay in a motel or something for the duration of classes or seminars offered... but you may be in location or financial circumstances which allow you to participate. I'll tag you when I find it and post here.

amazing how fast the landscape changes, the lake shores here are different every year, I imagine a good storm on many landscapes can have the same effect, uncover some stuff and cover others... sorry your trip was a bust.

Drummond Island Rocks. He doesn't do the internet except for news, I send her links to this forum all the time, we have a running conversation about rocks as well as other shared interests. She seems to have no interest in forums, too busy! I sent her the link to this conversation however. She is taking lapidary classes and they both recently took their first class in silver working. This is one of the results. I can't wait to see what else they make!

great agate slab, really neat cab, I love the dotted line lace effect on that one...and the druzy peek hole. very unusual. true yellow- orange is so rare in agates... I wouldn't want to cut that either.

Cheri Webb of CMDesigns created this adorable turtle pendant using a Petoskey cab for its shell. Clever use of metal backing, wasn't sure where to put this, but thought it was a neat idea that could be developed in one's own way for those who work with septarians or petoskeys or other rocks that would look good as a turtle shell.
