Well, we had a new baby come into our lives right after new years. It was sort of a surprise as we told each other that we really weren't ready for a new baby, but the time seemed right and the price was very affordable. Here's our new baby: and here's our old baby in front of our new baby: I think they both show attitude!!!! Now I can get into some places my big ol' truck can't reach!!!! Truthfully, my wife's dream car has been a Jeep and the last car we bought for her was a Saturn Vue - a good functional car for a family time. Now that our first baby is older, we went out to check out Jeeps. We did this a couple days after New Years with the intent not to buy - and we told the sales dude we weren't buying today. They checked our credit rating (which we didn't even know - and it turned out to be really good - imagine my surprise after knowing what my early 20's were like....) (By the way, I have a deep distrust of salespeople and their aversion to literal truth in order to make a buck...) We found the kind we liked (except in color) but told the guy we weren't buying. They dropped the monthly cost and the loan rate 1.5% if we bought one off the lot. My wife said she wanted red - not black/white/grey and if she was buying her dream car, it was going to be a color she wanted, not one that saved her $50 a month. They gave another offer contingent on if they could get a red Jeep of this type. My wife and I talked and agreed that the terms were definitely in our comfort zone. They checked and were able to bring our new baby in from a dealer 40 miles away. It wound up including running boards and a tow package - at no extra cost - as no other jeep dealer had a red one. The Jeep is great. Except for the pressure, the sales team listened to what we wanted, and we got a great deal compared to what they initially offered. It taught me to go in with the word "NO" tattooed on my tongue. It taught me how much wiggle room car dealers really have. It also taught me to go in on the last fiscal day of the year where THEY WANTED to sell more than WE WANTED to buy. I just wish I had those 5 hours waiting around the dealer back.... Thanks to reading my ramble... Lowell

Hey Roller - I've been bothered by this one ever since you posted it and I think I've found what it is. The book Geodes: Nature's Treasures by Cross and Zeitner has a chapter on South Dakota geodes termed "Rattle Rocks". They are from the area around Imlay. The book says "thousands" of geodes were removed from there and that there were multiple beds. Your coloration matches the exterior of those pictured in the book, with a large void and white crystal interior. I have tried to find photos on the internet to compare, but I've found none, except for a cover shot itself, which shows a barite geode from South Dakota in the bottom right corner. See it here: www.amazon.com/Geodes-Treasures-Brad-Lee-Cross/dp/1889786322I hope this helps. Lowell

Sampson,
Thanks for the advice. I need to get a piece of black cloth. I've used black paper ('borrowed' from the school I teach at) but I don't like how it looks.
The shots I took were while I was 'watching' my daughter on her bike riding around the cul-de-sac. I don't seem to have as much time as I used to have with her roaming around.
But I'll get the black velvet. Can I get one with an elvis image and just turn it over?
Woody,
The Baker eggs come from Deming, New Mexico. Mine come from Joel Hauser's widow (Joel Hauser who found the Hauser geode beds). I am fortunate enough to know their family and they let me into the back yard from time to time. These must date back to the 60's. So, they're not from Baker CA. If they were, I'm fairly sure there would be a giant crater in the ground there now.

Wonderful pieces.
Those cut ones look like railroad tracks.
Any way I can poach a picture or two for the Agate Index?

Mel,
Regarding the Brenda T-eggs - Ron, from the club, winters in Brenda and knows where the outcrop is. He brought back a half bucket of samples from there for the kid's booth and to provide me some samples for my collection, a few dozen of them still unbroken. Those two were the best of the batch that came already broken. I was really impressed by the clean interior (especially compared to a lot of the Hauser material) and the crystals inside the lil guys. I didn't tie them to your amethyst specimens until I saw what he brought and your photos came to mind and I had that "A ha!" moment.

Man,
Two incredible rock sale posts in a row... I'm dying I'm dying....
This weekend there was a sale in Cerritos that was posted on LA Rocks. Evidently it turned into a zoo. By noon the sale had been stopped and the sisters of the man who had passed away had shut down the sale. They claimed weather and I read from another post that their scale had broke. It's amazing how predatory these sales can become. I'm glad you had such a wonderful experience with a generous host.

Thanks for sharing,

Looking at the t-egg's rind and the formation around the center, I can't see enough coloration to make a guess, but I'm not the expert. There is a website I love www.sailorenergy.net/Minerals/DwarvesETAgatesEggsThunderEggs.htmlthat has tons of sites to glance through. You might want to start there. Look for those that have that brown web-like markings like the one you picture. Good luck, Lowell

Wonderful stuff!!!
Well - Texas Springs, Nevada produces pink limb casts. I don't know if the lesser quality material is brown or not, but it is the first thing that comes to mind.
As for that purple banded material - I'm not saying it is... and posting a lil better photos might aid ... but that purple reminds me of Holly (Holley) Blue... and if that's the case...DUDE!!!! SCORE!!!
That McDermitt looks interesting as well...

Steve and Brian - I picked up a Nebraska Blue and Kentucky agate from Boche's site before Christmas an early Christmas presents.
Better yet for my project, he's allowed me to poach his photos for the Agate Index.
I hope you have a nice place to display your rock (and rocks), Brian, cause they're top notch.
Congratulations,
Lowell

Some of your material reminds me of how some of the North Cady Agate shapes up, especially with the red and white, but it looks like you pulled larger pieces from your pile.
Of that batch, the patterning on photo #5 is my favorite, though you have several that I wouldn't kick out of my saw...
And as my posts should attest - photo heavy is the way to go. I don't believe in the old saying "Leave them wanting more" - show it all!!!! (I believe that phrase got me in trouble a couple times in college...but that's a story for another time...)

Awesome material. Condors are always on my favorites list.
Makes me want to get down there myself.
